No much point staying on board a presidential campaign that is going nowhere and can’t raise any money. McCain is toast.
My only fear is that his ego is so big he may try to launch a third party bid and sabotage the actual GOP nominee. His behavior in 2004 was not to his credit.

I was worried about that myself when I thought McCain might lose the nomination narrowly. I doubt even his ego is big enough to overcome the trouncing he's headed for now, however.
He'll probably stick it out at least through next February, but I wouldn't rule out a rare pre-Iowa withdrawal. We've already seen one on the Democrat side, and Vilsack has plenty of upside for the Democrats himself.
The only GOP candidate I really see running as a third party candidate is Ron Paul on the Libertarian ticket. Tancredo is another possibility, but only if Rudy is the nominee. None of the rest seem the rebellious sort.
