One of my four brothers graduated from the University of Iowa, but being an African American male, I don't think I want to spend too much time in the Hawkeye State. Only about 2 percent of Iowa's population is African American, but blacks are 13.6 times more likely than whites to be imprisoned there. That's more than twice the national average, which is bad enough

If the black men you’re stuffing the prisons with are the ones committing crimes, by definition you reduce it.
Find out where the author, Harold Jackson, lives. Take all of the black prisoners to his street and let them go. By his logic, this should not increase crime in his hood.

Truer words were never spoken. If you go down a street picking up black men at random and sticking them in prison, that will not reduce crime.
You need to go down the street and pick *criminals* up and stick *them* in prison. THAT reduces crime. And if you are going to do it right, you have to stick criminals in jail without considering their ethnicity, gender or religion. Start practicing catch and release on the basis of those externalities, and crime is likely to skyrocket. You have to be an equal-opportunity jailer.

How much more likely are they than whites to have committed a crime there? That is the part of that statistical comparison that is ALWAYS omitted from the discussion for some reason.

The government is responsible for the prisons and who goes there. I think the black population should really look at reducing the federal government, instead of embracing it. Reduce the power of government and inherently you reduce your prison time. Of course, folks on the street would have to pick up on the justice a little bit.

OK I have vented, a little... My Kids are ALL National Honor Roll (Past or Present), My Son is in the Navy in the Nuc program, My Wife is working on her “THIRD” Degree and she speaks (FIVE) Languages, me... I just must be an enabler that has little time for losers and those that think that they are “owed” something or maybe I just have a History of being berated by those that I worked for (Those POOR POOR folks in New Orleans, 4th and 5th Generation Welfare Whores that use the color of their skin as an excuse for any and everything).
