Stuffing prisons with black men is not the way to reduce crime
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 07/24/07 | Harold Jackson

One of my four brothers graduated from the University of Iowa, but being an African American male, I don't think I want to spend too much time in the Hawkeye State. Only about 2 percent of Iowa's population is African American, but blacks are 13.6 times more likely than whites to be imprisoned there. That's more than twice the national average, which is bad enough

No. The Great Society helped many poor people. The black community did a lot of harm to their own community and continues to do harm.

While agreeing that stating that the Great Society is the cause of the decline of the black family is not completely the case, how do you feel that the Great Society helped poor people, other than making them dependant on the government?

Not all the Great Society programs were welfare although it seems welfare is what most people think of when they think of LBJ and 1964.

There were many programs other than welfare that were part of that legislation. For sure they were not equally effective. The Community Action programs diverted a lot of money into local communities and the results were mixed.

There were 5 or 6 other programs, e.g., Vista and Job Corps, that were helpful to many. There were conservation centers and urban centers where 16 year old kids got to see a dentist for the first time in their lives and where they learned to read and write. Most were not employable or even eligible for the military because of illiteracy when they entered the programs.

Many of the ‘kids’ had never traveled more than 20 miles from their homes. They got to see areas of the country where jobs were plentiful, in sharp contrast to their home areas, e.g. Appalachia, the reservations, where there were no jobs. IIRC there were a couple of hundred thousand young men and women in these programs.

BTW I enjoy your posts. I don’t always agree with them I find them thoughtful and well presented.

Black males between the age of 16 and 35 are responsible for 70% of all crimes committed in this country.

Thats fact, not myth. Hence, yep, you are going to have more black males in prison.

[The victims] are the blacks who are beaten, robbed, raped and killed by black criminals.

There are a lot of WHITES who are beaten, robbed, raped, and killed by black criminals too. THEY are victims far more than the assailants, robbers, rapists, and murderers, whatever their color.

Your source is correct: they want you to f*ck up your application process and do everything they can to encourage you to do so. The idea behind it is that very many people simply “want a gun”, just to have, and it doesn’t have anything to do with exercising a constitutional right or defending themselves. There is no principle or need, they just want one...because.

It’s because of these “because I want one” gunowners that the regulations and laws are so arcane and often ridiculous. These are the sorts of folks who want a weapon simple beacause it makes them “look tough” or because “guns are cool”. It’s a fashion accessory, and probably compensation for something else (small genitalia, self-esteem issues, Momma stopped breast feeding too soon, etc).

Those are not reasons to own a weapon, at all, and people that shallow can often be counted upon to be totally irresponsible with their weapons.

The City does it best to discourage this sort of gun owner, hence a lot of the rigamarole. Someone who actually might require that weapon and/or is wiling to go through that sort of trouble, expense and agita, can be more or less relied upon to be a responsible gun owner.

The system is designed to simply wear the causual wanna-be gun owner, or the idiot, down until they give up.

I agree just think that if the Duke lacrosse players didnt have good attorneys they would be in prison for 25 plus. It makes you wonder if there are other DA’s that have overlooked evidence only to get a conviction.

Okay...Fair enough.

However, whenever someone like you (whatever your race or gender is) is headlined in the news I will not (always) throw in the Hitler, Stalin or Vlad the Impaler comparison to denigrate you or your whole group as if these above people are the only ones that you, as a whole, can be compared to. It gets kind of old and tiresome. I noticed that the references you make are all television from television headlines. You probably have no intimate contact with anyone outside your little group, but will watch a MSM broadcast and feel perfectly justified in your little prejudices.

By the way, honor awards and good citizenship is not confined to your small, little, narrow world.
