Why Vegetarians are Eating Meat

A growing number of vegetarians are starting to eat humanely raised meat. Christine Lennon talks to a few converts— including her husband and famed author Mollie Katzen.
To a die-hard meat eater, there's nothing more irritating than a smug vegetarian. I feel at liberty to say this because I am one (a steak lover) and I married the other (a vegetarian with a pulpit). For me, "Do you now, or would you ever, eat meat?" has always been a question on par with "Do you ever want to get married?" and "Do you want children?" The answer to one reveals as much about a person's interior life, and our compatibility, as the response to the others. My husband Andrew's reply to all of those questions when I asked him three years ago was, "No."
Obviously, we're now married. We had twins earlier this year. And somewhere in between those two events, the answer to the third question was also re-evaluated, and the vegetarian soapbox was put to rest, too.
Yes, my husband has started eating meat again after a seven-year hiatus as an ethically motivated and health-conscious vegetarian.

I have a friend who’s a ‘vegan’ who tells me how much weight I would lose if I became one. I found out you lose weight because there is nothing you can eat!!!

In my part of the woods, admitting that you don't eat beef could get you ostracized from local society (this is cattle country).

I am a vegetarian but I make exceptions. I still eat beef, pork, lamb, all sea food, all wild game except Armidillos and I never, well hardly ever, eat more than 3 or 4 servings of meat a day.

soy turkey tastes pretty decent if cooked right.
Nothing beats steak though.

Spread the meet out in a wide mixing bowl. Sprinkle generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and finely chopped fresh onion.
Make patties out of the meat/mixture. Make BIG ones by filling the palms of both hands, then flatten them out on a cutting board. Grill them on high heat. Best burger you will ever eat.

Easiest way to trip up a vegetarian:
Ask them if they eat egg or egg by-products.

Daniel 1 relates the experience of a pre-Christian historical figure. It doesn't establish biblical warrant for vegetarianism.
A stronger biblical reference is Acts 10:13-15. "...what God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy."

On the other hand I am amazed at those Texas steak houses that have the 2 1/2 pounders or more where you get a t-shirt and you picture on the wall if you eat the whole thing. Sales gimmick, however I have eaten at the big TeX in Amarillo, they have some of the best steak in the country.

Look how wealthy we are as a nation.
Lots of people can waste money, and our resources, by only eating ‘natural’ foods, and no one cares.
Even poor people have enough money to throw some away on ‘natural’ foods.
