President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.
Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.
If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.
"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."
Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Yes, and if you’ve been paying attention to the DimocRats lately, they now believe that because the President’s polls numbers are so low they can introduce a bill of sensure against him on the war. What they don’t realize is that it isn’t so much the war that people are so upset about, but the immigration reform bill that failed and the Bush Administrations failure to secure the borders. They also are not paying much attention to their own poll numbers. These people don’t get it and probably never will. They are so arrogant.
We reproduce at a rate that barley keeps up to the death rate. They are reproducing at a rate that will make them the majority voting demographic in three generations. It’s not just “20 million of them”...it’s the 20 million of them, the next generation that will increase their total population to over 70 million, and the following generation that will grow their population to approach 200 million.
2) Economy. If you think these immigrants are ruining our economy, then you’ve been in a coma the past 7 years. Can’t help you there.
They’re taking more out of the economy than they contribute, that’s a net loss. They take out more from our economy in the form of taxpayer-funded services than they contribute. The average illegal is a NET financial LOSS to the US economy! Obviously you can’t “help” because you’re part of the problem.

Illiterate illegal immigrant criminals are not a “replacement” for an American citizen.

The “wrong side” of this issue is the side that’s advocating for those who intentionally disobey our laws to be rewarded with citizenship, or even with legal status.

Even if what you suggest is true (and I believe it largely is), I do have issue with those (and granted, it’s not all of them) who wish to come here and yet believe we should cowtow to them by speaking Spanish, or, worse yet, march around OUR cities with signs suggesting they think Texas is part of Mexico.
What do you make of that part of the issue? Or the fact that some evidence suggests terrorists are using the Mexican and Canadian borders to enter?
I have no problem with guest workers and such - but I do think there has to be some level of control on it.

I'm all in favor of having our government held accountable for enforcing our immigration laws and protecting our citizens from illegal alien criminals that come here just to prey upon all of us. I'm not in favor of anything that IMHO would seriously injure this country. So, as soon as you and your friends have a comprehensive and WORKABLE solution to this problem, please, by all means, go before Congress and present your plan. If, after all this, all you want to do is cast aspersions, hurl insults, or make inane and useless comments, then do not respond. For, if you do, this will be our last communication on this topic. I don't have the extra money to pay for illegals routine health visits, since they don't have insurance or pay taxes, so my hospital is closing...Your response, "You hate Mexicans!"

My grandfather could only speak Italian. He was at a terrible disadvantage here and thus gravitated to others that spoke his language.
He worked at Republic Steel...as a laborer. He picked dandelions in Cazenovia Park and brought them home to cook and eat. He sometimes brought pigeons home and killed them in or basement...and prepared them several different ways. To this little boy, he looked poor, dumb and stupid.
But...his daughter...my late mother, only spoke English and understood Italian. She raised 4 children who never brought the police to our door.
And his great-grand daughter...my child is an honors graduate of Princeton and in her last year of law school at Yale.
Two other sons own their own real estate company.
I am not inconvenienced by being prompted to choose English vs Spanish. It's a temporary solution to assist new future citizens.
I've always supported a protected border...but I also support a free market and an expanded guest-worker program.
We have no disagreements there. I have to admit though it does feel like I'm in a foreign country in some areas of MontCo...although I guess it depends on how you look at it. My biggest concern is really that 90% of them will be liberal Democrats...
While I’m against illegal immigration, while I want our borders secured, while I want all those illegal immigrants who come here simply to commit further crimes and prey upon all of us, I don’t see the answers to these problems as being as simple minded as these people do. I cannot stand people who just love to hate for hate’s sake. I also don’t like being accused of things I don’t advocate for or things I didn’t say. These posts from these people are irritating (really more than that, but I don’t wish to be banned - I don’t think I can give my true feelings as that would cause me more problems than I care to endure - I have too much respect for this forum).
Thank you for being on the legal citizens side against this illegal alien fiasco.
We have a way for people born in other countries to come here - and we the American people are in favor of this legal means of entering the country.
And we already have a Guest Worker Program and we realize there is a need for a number a people from other countries to be employed here temporarily - from run-way models to fruit pickers, but laws must be inforced so that when their work is done they go home....
