Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Better yet, Bankrupt every business that hires them and if it starts a famine, so what

Let's apply the law to the criminal employers. If we don't, then there is no equal justice, and there is no America. But then, wasn't it the president who said America is just an idea? I am sure you feel the same way.

Dear bray, (interesting name btw)

You are jumping into extreme exaggerations and ignoring some posts to you. (See my post to you at #364.)

Now after you bankrupt all those dirty farmers, who you going to get to raise your crops??

You have made a few huge assumptions. One, all those farmers will be bankrupted. Two, allowing the free hand of legal enterprise control the market (allowing farms which produce produce at below production cost to go bankrupt) is bad. Three, the cost of cheap vegetables is more important then the cost of secure borders.

You have insinuated that this is hate driven, but I for one, do not waste my time in hating illegal immigrants. Nor do I believe many of the posters here do either. If there is any 'hate' in my beliefs it is reserved for those elected officials who fail to uphold the Constitution for which they took an oath to do.

According to the Constitution, Congress, the states, and the president are responsible for protecting us. In Article 1, Section 8, Congress has the power to “establish a uniform rule of naturalization … to provide for the calling of the militia to execute the laws of the union … and repel invasions.”

In Article 1 Section 10, “no state shall, without consent of Congress … engage in war, unless actually invaded.” In Article 2, Section 2, the President “shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

What laws would that include Mr. President? How about Article 4, Section 4? “The United States … shall protect each of them (states) against invasion; and … against domestic violence.”

There are enough statistics that show that many illegals are raising the level of domestic violence in America, but the President, and you apparently, think that the Constitution needs a revamp because following it now would be too costly to tomato growers.

As a former member of the Armed Forces I say Blahhhh! I took an oath to defend the Constitution against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. Now how can you expect any member of the Armed Forces to defend the Constitution when our own elected leaders wish to disregard it?

You post "pray for our troops and W" and that is good, but you need to fully realize that your stance on illegal immigration and the Presidents stance on the Constitution runs contrary to supporting what the troops took an oath to do. In the end, your support for the troops is undermined by your support of ignoring the law breakers and ignoring the Constitutional duties of our elected officials.

Sincerely

Just because 90% of illegals are Mexican there is no reason to mention they are Mexicans.

That 90% is completely untrue, but I suppose that won't stop you from your race-baiting.

“Your hatred of Illegal Immigrants/Mexicans trumps all.”

Your words. You don’t even know me. You just assumed that this statement was appropo.

“Of course there is no racism in this issue, none. Just because 90% of illegals are Mexican there is no reason to mention they are Mexicans. That would be race baiting.”

Glad we got that straight.

“Drag them out of their homes and jobs”

I have no interest in invading Mexico, that would be an act of war.

“Better yet, Bankrupt every business that hires them”

If it comes to that.

“and if it starts a famine”

You assume every illegal works the fields, who’s the bigot now? Also, once the raids start to deplete the numbers, the farmers WILL still need bodies. My youngest (15) had a sleepover with 4 friends last night. They all range in age from 14 to 16. None are working.

I bet they would be if harvesting crops paid a fair wage.

May not be a big deal to you, but it is a big deal to the farmer you are willing to bankrupt. So you get rid of all those ‘greedy’ farmers, who you going to have grow our food?? You?

Right now you have the market picking the crops, so let the market do its job like it has for hundreds of years. There is no difference tween ‘conservatives’ interfering w/the Market and Libs, they both cause inefficiencies.

Document these workers as Guest Workers and put up the fence. Then you have the Baby and the Bathwater.

Pray for W and Our Troops

U.S. Department of Labor record highs and lows by state.

You will notice that with a few exceptions(notably Michigan), every state is lower or within a 1.5 percentage points of their historical low (unemployment).

My point was that if the farmer had to pass along the costs of paying higher wages, it wouldn't amount to squat. I never intimated that farmers are greedy or should be put out of business. I think you're being a bit over-sensitive, for whatever reason. Lighten up Francis.

The government is interfering with the market, don’t you see that? By selective enforcement of our laws, the government is giving the lawbreakers a competitive advantage over honest citizens. How is that ‘the market’? In most dictionaries, that would be a definition of fascism, not a free market.

What no one wants to admit most likely, is that they include poor paying, templike jobs in the employed numbers, only because taxes are being paid.

The ugly secret is that most of those jobs are not even good enough to sustain life.

What, you think there is no competition in the agriculture markets?? Raising his costs are not going to raise costs in Chile or Brazil so he goes out of business. How many farmers/ranchers you willing to sacrifice to get rid of the Mexicans, Francis.

What happens when you destroy the farmers and the farms? We have a great industry and the last thing it needs is Do Gooder ‘conservatives’ destroying it. The movement is diving off a cliff over Mexicans.

Never thought we would see the day when ‘conservatives’ were outraged over capitalists making a profit. Oh yeah, it is ok to make a profit as long as it is a conservatively correct profit.

Pray for W and Our Troops

Say what you want, but they are some hardworking people.

Mexico is so screwed up because Mexicans are such hard workers.

Gotcha.

Why don't you come on down here to Houston and I will get you onto a construction crew and let's see how long it takes for the illegal aliens to run your ass off.

Further, I can drop you off in some of their apartment complexes and we will see just how these hard working, good and honest illegal aliens treat you.

I will pay $10.00 for a head of lettuce if it will prevent my family from having to wait behind a bunch of diseased, dead beat criminals that don't speak a word of English in the ER.

Proponents of a new temporary worker program argue that increased immigration enforcement would lead to fewer illegal agricultural workers and, as a consequence, the American consumer would face a major increase in the cost of food. This is factually incorrect according to experts. Dr. Philip Martin, a leading academic authority on agricultural labor, notes that American consumers now spend more on alcoholic beverages on average than they spend on fresh fruits and vegetables.1

An average household currently spends about $370 per year on fruits and vegetables. If curtailing illegal alien agricultural labor caused tighter labor conditions and a 40 percent increase in wages, the increased cost to the American family would be $9 a year, or about 2.4 cents per day. Yet for the farm laborer, the change would mean an increase in earnings from $8,800 to $12,350 for each 1,000 hours of work (25 weeks if the worker worked 40-hour weeks). That increase would move the worker from beneath the federal poverty line to above it. 2

Here is the Link. Read it and refute it.

So many of the civilized nations in the world are being invaded by the 3rd world cesspool. I guess we only made it so far until we all had to fall to ruin, brought down by PC and those profiting from a criminal labor force.

Our formerly beautiful public lands in the SW are largely war zones, or at best, full of dirty diapers and beer cans the rangers can’t clean up fast enough. When you see the non-English speaking defecating in the bushes right behind a perfectly clean outhouse, you know how they feel about the country.

Those in gated communities, in states far away, or profiting from illegal alien labor either don’t see this or don’t care.

Yes, but they ignore the hard evidence and call us racist.

I’ll support the ouster of all illegal alien criminals and will pay the additional $9.00 a year in increased costs for produce.

If they want to know where the manpower will come from to deport the illegals aliens I will volunteer my services and I am sure that several million other Americans will do the same.

As to the argument that employers cannot determine who are here illegally and who are not it is quite simple. We do it at my office as we cannot insure illegals so no matter the cost we will not hire them. That and the absolute fact that the owners of our engineering firm are honest, flag flying Americans. They are after an HONEST buck.

I won’t avoid the crime issue. Yes they commit crimes, just like inner city poor commit crimes. You going to outlaw poverty?

____________________________________________________

Inner city poor (why choose them as a criminal example?) are born here. You illegal coddlers dishonestly tiptoe around the fact there would be no victims of illegal rapists and murderers if you and your ilk did not lobby against enforcing existing laws just so that some folks could make a few bucks.

One rape or one murder is too many.

Sorry, but health cards only apply to Rich American-born fat-cats like yourself. Illegals must be exempt for multicultural reasons that are beyond your simplistic education.

Yes Master I forgot my place. Forgive me. Thanks for reminding me.. LOL.. It's sad though when our elected leaders are allowed to think of us and treat us that way.
