President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.
Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.
If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.
"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."
Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Of course we are all very upset about what this has done to our party. But, are we going to let this current Administration and Congress destroy us completely?
We must have the two party system to continue living in a democracy, under the Constitution. We can’t let that vanish.
I hope we can direct our frustration (and anger) to work for the benefit of our core beliefs.
We need legal aliens, an increased birthrate, and greater technology and automation.
We want to be the world’s high wage economy not a third world stink hole where Mexican surfs are exploited like a new slave class for corporate interests.
Stop the exploitation: Fine and imprison employers that exploit Mexican nationals illegally in the United States!!
Right if hes pro-immigration.. make a plan to increase the number of legal immigrants we bring in. And or change the mix of immigrants we let in from mainly based on family.. to mainly based on economic factors. For example prioritize a bright young foreigner applying for citizenship, with her entire working career ahead of her, over an elderly family member.

Ummm .. seems to me even NPR has mentioned the difficulty teens are having finding summer jobs — “immigrants” are taking them.
When I was a kid, I did LOTS of farmwork in upstate New York.
Now, my brothers kids sit around the house and get fat because there are no jobs. And yes, they have looked for them, but get turned down because the illegals have the jobs. True fact.

"the world's high-wage economy" We use to be just that....but this move towards socialism, a NAU.. and globalization will do nothing but drag us down ...if you are a third-world country you stand to do nothing but benefit....if you have a boat and are surrounded by "boat-less" swimmers worse off than you..and you start pulling them on-board there is a benefit to them but not to you...and if you pull enough on-board you will sink your own situation....
Although they can't stand you because you're "Conservative", I can't stand you because you're not.
But we have the common understanding that enough is enough and you're leaving office won't be "too soon".
But I think it may fairly represent the large contingent of unattached Mexican (and perhaps other illegal, Latin American) young men. It certainly seems that that age group is a very large component of the problem we have with illegal aliens commiting violent crimes and driving drunk. I'd be thrilled if our government would at least honestly commit to ridding the U.S. of the criminal element among our illegal alien population, but they won't even do that.
