Powell has become a national disgrace.
Isn’t Powell one of those who were yowling and screeching about how Iraq would have been all easy peezy if we’d only gone with th “Powell Doctrine” and gone into Iraq with “more boots on the ground”? And kept more boots on the ground?
It’s all Bushes fault. Not enough boots on the ground and too many boots on the ground.
I’m sure he is!
Powell is an empty suit. Many years ago, he was hand picked to mover up the line primarily because of his race. He never stayed in one assignment long enough to really do anything other than get his “ticket punched” he jumped over many more qualified officers for promotion. Now, the true Powell is coming out for everyone to see: a disloyal, treacherous, liberal POS.
Colin - please shut the hell up.
Powell if you’d given the proper advise during Desert Storm...like taking saddamn out then...most likely we’d not be in Iraq today....this is your fault jerkoff.
Dear General Powell,
Thank you for your service to our nation.
That said, you’re no acting like a half-wit, and misreading the enemy in ways that would make a 2nd Lt. embarassed. Please go away and shut your piehole.
Very, very sincerely,
Mr. Silverback
Powell is retired... and should stay retired.
It all began with Bush’s “new tone” approach for Washington in 2001. When you appoint liberals, you don’t win any points, you don’t win any favors. You get stabbed in the back.
Let’s review: Powell urged Bush 41 to end the first Persian Gulf War, he vigorously opposed aiding the Kurds and the marsh Arabs when they staged a revolt against Saddam, and he was the primary opponent of the invasion of Iraq. What else can the man do to aid our Islamic enemies?
Powell is no longer the CJC’s or Sec State. He stabbed the president in the back over the Plame fiasco, it’s pretty evident he dislikes him.
Looks like he might be trying to position himself in a dem administration if they take the WH. He should just fade away.
Powell is an expert on affifmative action. Just another full blown liberal.
HE IS/WAS Bush's weakest link!
he should take his little fat Snaggletooth puppet, Armitage and do something good for a change....join Hillary;s campaign!!!
Powell isn't a player anymore; he's a pundit.
Powell is correct. The current deployment schedule is killing the US Army. Unless America gets real about being in a 2 front war and significantly and quickly builds up the Army, Powell is simply stating a fact.
Every time I read about Colin Powell’s disgraceful comments, and the cowardice of some GOP senators, I am reminded of this beautiful prose written about another American president:
“His homely humour stood him in good stead. A sense of irony helped to lighten his burdens. In tense moments, a dry joke relieved his feelings. At the same time, his spirit was sustained by a deepening belief in Providence. When the toll of war rose steeply and plans went wrong he appealed for strength in his inmost thoughts to a power higher than man’s. Strength was certainly given him. It is sometimes necessary at the summit of authority to bear with the intrigues of disloyal colleagues, to remain calm when others panic, and to withstand misguided popular outcries. All this Lincoln did.”
Winston Churchill, A History of English Speaking Peoples Volume IV, page 194.
I have no respect for Powell. I didn’t for most of his tenure in the government after leaving the military.
He would be saying something correct if he really knew what he was saying. That is, we spent a decade and a half gutting our military capability to conduct conventional warfare. And we are now suffering for it because we are required to fight a conventional war for an extended period. We need significantly more in uniform for better rotations.
Yes, our troop levels are a burden. Unfortunately, we don’t really have any choice. And it won’t get better because there are no plans in the works to rebuild the size of our armed forces.
And, if what I’ve read is accurate, we are still downsizing our naval fleet.
Powell is auditioning for Hillary’s VP spot.
I don’t think she cares much for Obama.
"It is well that war is so terrible lest we should grow too fond of it."
