The videotape was made in the last four weeks, but the clips appear to be old, said Octavia Nasr, CNN's senior editor for Arab affairs. There is no indication of where it was shot, and CNN cannot verify its authenticity.
"We're aware of the tape," a government official, who didn't want to be identified, told CNN. The official agreed that the tape's content is not necessarily new.
"There has not been, over time, a one-to-one correlation between release of a tape and any significant operation or attack afterward," the official added.
Bin Laden, with a bodyguard standing directly behind him, is looking down slightly in the video, appearing to address an audience below, which is unseen. Watch the al Qaeda leader »
He says that the Prophet Mohammed wanted to be a martyr, and that is a worthy goal for every Muslim.
"So be alert, be wise and think. What is this status that the best of mankind wished for himself? He wished to be a martyr. He himself said, 'By him in whose hands my life is! I would love to attack and be martyred, then attack again and be martyred, then attack again and be martyred.'

They could have doctored that tape to make him look older and a number of things.
Its not the old footage reappearing that strikes me...its the timing after all the buzz.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Amen to that! If he can’t come out on the front line and fight like a real man then he’s nothing but a symbol.
The short clip looks like video from the 2001 timeframe. He is wearing the same camo jacket he wore in a previous video.
It’s apparently footage from a video made in 2001. But I agree about the timing of this ‘new’ release.
So old, they actually show Usama when he was alive.
From the Wikipedia: "... In 632, on returning to Medina from his 'Farewell pilgrimage', Muhammad fell ill and died."
Muhammad died at the age of 62, failing to achieve (according to Osama Mama) his lifelong ambition to be a martyr. Apparently once again, Allah was "not willing" even for his Prophet Numero Uno.
Of course there is the possibility that good old Osama Mama is simply lying to all those 15 year olds that he is sending to certain death with explosives strapped to their chest. This religion is a joke. A bad joke.
How many approval points is killing Bin Laden worth, you figure?
Welcome back OBL.
We have elections soon, which democrat are you supporting with your millions.
I think he has those nail wrap manicure things going on. He’s so careful with those long nails I think they were still wet at the time of the video. We need to start infiltrating nail salons in rural Pakistan.
I like awake at nights wondering how God treats its martyrs. I presume he has mercy on those feeble ones the 'religion' preys on to do its dirty work.
The very fact that Islam does not describe the afterlife in any way recognizable to us - no positive feedback like we get via near death experiences - tells me that Satan runs this crappy, inept, inefficent system.
This is for sure an old footage of Bin Laden. I have seen it being played before on one of the terrorist websites.
The terrorists websites and forums were buzzing for the last 2 weeks that a new video tape of Bin Laden should come out soon. I think many terrorists and their supporters are very disappointed right now that all what they got is an old footage of the master of terrorism.
Thats odd... the video started with that same book I keep in my bathroom next to the toilet to wipe my butt (page by page) when I take a poo.
Hmm. Old video. Seems like they would want new video to inspire the youthful jihadists. Does this mean old Osama is dead meat?
