The competence of the British bombers bears this out.
The way I see it we’ve got two choices. Bomb the hell out of them or send in Reid, Edwards, Pelosi and Murtha to negotiate a peace treaty.
Yes. What do we make of this?
“The official and others spoke on condition of anonymity because the secret report remains classified.”
So, they leak the classified material but cover themselves by demanding anonymity. In other words, it’s OK to betray your country as long as you protect yourself.
No kidding. We must have piled up a small mountain of them.
Combined MI and SOCOM Ping.
If true, this only means Al Qaida is more determined than Congress to win this war.
Why don’t we just wiretap them? Oh, wait....
How about we interrogate some of the guys down in Git-mo, using whatever means necessary? Oops, that’s right...
Let’s at least track the money through the financial networks using the methods outlined in the New York Times a year or two ago. Crap, you mean they stopped using them?
Thanks a lot, liberals. You made America vulnerable. I swear, if there is another attack on US soil, the liberals in Congress need to be held accountable.
Funny, this could have been “Al Quida much stronger then before Nov 7th, 2006”
ok, so like Japan, where do we drop the bomb
so they sign a peace pact ? This is life and
death and it’s time for them to die.
I’ll bet one of the al-Qaeda training facilities is in Islamberg, NY
“A senior intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity while the high-level analysis was being finalized, said the document has been in the works for roughly two years.”
Does anyone here see the key words? This is in other words an opinion of a report that doesn’t exist yet. If this is really the CIA’s assessment though, it would mean that they’re too busy yapping to the media instead of doing their jobs of breaking up Al-Qaeda.

LonePalm, le Républicain du verre cassé (The Broken Glass Republican)
” to a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks”
Ok, let’s compare, during the 1990s under Clinton THEY GREW IN SIZE TO UNPRECEDENTED LEVELS. Now, 6 years after 9/11, they might, according to some unknown source (think recent leak on Iraq benchmarks, none met), they are back to pre 9/11 levels.
So, even if true, that means in 6 yrs they remained at the same level net. Not optimal, but better than GAINING as they did in the past.
This will be spun against the WOT, the GOP et al better have a good response and note that breaking them up, even if they regroup, is better than letting them continue to grow unabated. Moreover, we can just chop the head off the serpent again if need be, and if the left wasn’t tying our hands.
I call BS on this story.
I’m pretty sure I read here recently that some U. S, military officers in Iraq say that Al Quaeda is on the ropes in Iraq because of the surge.
Info from a five-page summary? It’s sad to think how much policy is made by boneheads reading “five-page summaries.”
“Operational capability” means what ?
Lots of graduates from training schools?
(Car Bomb 101 needs improving by the look of it in UK)
Lots of volunteers ?
How many top notch planners are there ? Logistical experts?
“The official and others spoke on condition of anonymity because the secret report remains classified.”
Prosecute him/her/them.
Regardless of how effective. Whenever a terrorist group, regains numbers it is serious, because if they cannot carry out terrorist attacks, they can certainly provide human intelligence.
Ok Bushbots sound off! AQ is hq’ and rebuilt in pakistan, an”ally” and clueless George is still trying to make Iraqi oilfields safe for Iranian control.
The new direction should be re-arm the baathists asap and get out.
