VATICAN CITY — Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday removed restrictions on celebrating the old Latin Mass, reviving a rite that was all but swept away by the liberalizing reforms of the Second Vatican Council. The decision, a victory for traditional, conservative Roman Catholics, came over the objections of liberal-minded Catholics and angered Jews because the Tridentine Mass contains a prayer for their conversion. ... In addition to Jewish concerns, bishops in France, and liberal-minded clergy and faithful elsewhere expressed concerns that allowing freer use of the Tridentine liturgy would imply a negation of Vatican II and create divisions in parishes since two different liturgies would be celebrated.

I wonder if he will have an occasional Latin Mass.
I am on parish counsel and he has called for a meeting with us. I am hoping for good things to come.
He is not ORDERING anybody to celebrate the mass. He is barring the local bishops from obstructing parishes that would like to celebrate it as an extraordinary mass, no different than youth masses. There is not compulsion anywhere in his writings that mandates celebration of the mass.
The Latin Mass was never dead in South America as followers of Bishop Lefevre (as I recall his name) were very numerous. There was at least one Catholic priest who would give the Latin Mass in Arizona, and there are probably more around the USA.

They are doing it as we speak. Several priests in the Chicago Archdiocese have been studying the Latin Mass for several years now, and now they are teaching it to others, so they in turn can serve at other churches that want a Latin Mass. At St. John Vianny Church in Northlake, the priest who says the Latin Mass is teaching it to others, and those priests are saying Mass for us as a way of practicing it.
As for the altar boys (and I don’t mean girls) they have readily taken to it.
What is the problem? Self-styled liberals are always lecturing us on the wonders of "diversity." Perhaps they don't really mean it.

The key word here is “reverent”. Since the implementation of the Mass in the vernacular, the Mass has been turned into some sort of a social gathering, where the congregation is constantly applauding anything and everybody. One recent Sunday in my Parish, it was the Sunday that the N.O. Saints were playing in the playoffs to go to the Super Bowl. The priest was standing at the foot of the altar at the end of Mass waiting for the exit hymn to be finished sung. Then, he suddenly dons a Saints cap, and the organist plays When the Saints Go Marching In. I know this is sort of a religious song, but the congregation started clapping and carrying on. In other words, it turned into a big Pep rally, and hardly something we would have seen 40 years ago at the end of Mass.
The divisions in parishes were introduced by the Novus Ordo and the guitar masses. Every parish I’ve been in since then has tended to have a liberal mass and a more conservative mass, or a children’s mass and a grownup mass. Usually the conservatives are expected to get up very early in the morning if they don’t like guitar music.
Other way around at our parish. The 7AM Mass, is the guitar mass, The 10AM is the with a traditional choir.

Long before I converted, in my childhood our family would watch his show. We were not Catholics but my father said, he is a great man with much wisdom.

If your parish has a Latin Mass, they will get Mass books from Ecclesia Dei in Glenview, IL that will give you the English and Latin so you can follow the priest. Also they have a few of the Chants in the back, like “Credo in unum deum” and “Gloria in excelsis deus” and “Sanctus” and “Agnus Dei” so you can sing along with the choir or organist. They use the bells, also, to signal the start of a different part of the Mass. You just can’t get lost!
Amen. If the libs don’t like it let them start their own church. They just want to be excused about everything.
