Gore: Son's arrest is 'a private family matter'

Updated: July 5, 2007 08:08 AM EDT

NEW YORK (AP) -- Al Gore says he's dealing with his son's arrest in California "as a private family matter."

Al Gore the Third, who is 24, was arrested early yesterday. Sheriff's deputies say he was driving about 100 miles per hour on the San Diego Freeway. They arrested him on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

The former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee appeared on the "Today" show on NBC this morning. He says he's glad his son is safe and is "getting treatment." He also says he's thankful no one was hurt.

Al Gore the Third completed substance abuse counseling to settle pot possession charges in suburban Washington in 2003.

Interface with the Public Agency is pretty much public. It is not the business of private citizens, and to that extent Algore is correct. However, we the private citizens are not the public.

Gore: Son's arrest is 'a private family matter'

Gore: Son's car accident in 1989 is NOT 'a private family matter' but is to publicly paraded and exploited in the most maudlin and repulsive manner in order to extract the maximum political benefit.

I’m sure Clinton Inc. will make sure that this does not remain a private matter for long. So, will this kill Algore’s run?

Gore: Son’s arrest is ‘a private family matter’

The police have duty to apprehend prosecute anyone who breaks the law. At that time they are under arrest and are the property of the Law. They are brought before a public court and it becomes "The People vs Gore"

It is not private anymore.

I say to AlGore....when I take a F350 SuperDuty and haul dragracing motorcycles to the race track and waste gallon after gallon of gas, don't tell me I shouldn't do it. After all, its a private family matter.

It's not a family matter, Lard Brain. The essence of an arrest is that your personal life becomes a public concern.

“What does the guy do for a living?”

Sponge off the old man, drive a car doing 100 mph, and guzzling drugs.

Sorry. But I cannot agree that anything that happens within the Gore family is private family business.

When one (Prince Albert Gore Jr.) proclaims himself to be the savior of the world. Everything that happens within that family becomes the business of everyone who looks to the Patriarch of that family for their salvation.

As a Father, grand father and great grand father, I empathize with Gore and pray for the full recovery of his son. I take no pleasure in tragedies within any family. Not even the families of the worse enemy that the civilized world ever faced.

Notwithstanding that it is the son of Crazy Al Gore, the headline is correct. That Gore's son -- or any other politican's son, no matter the party affiliation -- got caught being wild is irrelevant to, say, Gore's Man-Caused Global Warming scam. The first question for Gore out of whats-her-name's mouth on some morning news show today, according to my husband (who only watches about 15 minutes of the show to get his blood pressure up in the mornings!), was about the arrest of the kid. Like the kid's trouble has ANYTHING to do with Gore's pushing a fear-based scam on gullible Americans, terrorizing innocent children with tales of doom and dying polar bears and doing his damndest to justify squelching freedom, business, enterprise, and commerce in the name of "the environment."

That Gore is a leftist and my enemy is unrelated to the fact that his kid screwed up. I will NOT engage in a double standard that says because Gore is a leftist, it's okay for the media to try to tear him apart on any premise, while I would surely (and rightly) complain if the media did (as it certainly would do) the same to a conservative politician whose kid had been caught being wild like Gore's son.

Before you self-righteous folks try to rationalize as relevent to Gore's politics any media "concern" with the behaviour of Gore's son by saying that "the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree" etc., think about the many good people with kids going through a screwed-up phase and recall some wisdom for the ages: There but for the grace of God ...

One thing is that this is between the young man and the state. He is of the age of majority and is on his own. The rest of the family might buy his lawyer, maybe even pay his fines.

It’s always a “private family matter” with democrats. But when a republican screws up, they tout the public’s “right to know.”

It's that 2 Americas that Edwards is always yapping about

OK -- so it is Gore's business what car I drive, but it is none of our business when his son repeatedly puts people at risk while driving recklessly? (At least his car was environmentally correct this time!) I could understand if he were a minor or if this were a first time offense, but come on!

I read that the son claims the pot was for a medical condition...he’s trying to forget who his father is.

Now, I wouldn’t hold Gore’s quotes about drugs against him. After all, he wouldn’t be the first kid to embarrass his parents. But, come on, this is his fourth offense that we know of. Something about the kid is screwed up, thuper, thuper, therially.
