Zawahiri has a photograph of his armed jihadis behind his right shoulder — they appear to have enough fire power to take care of things.
Also, the as-Sahab studio probably dropped in their own background when they edited the film.
Also, Zawahiri was wearing WHITE clothing ...delivering his usual propaganda — just in time for July.
Anyway, that’s my immediate observations.

Iran’s Proxy War (Op-Ed by Joe Lieberman)
Wall Street Journal ^ | July 6, 2007 | Senator Joseph Lieberman
Posted on 07/05/2007 9:29:24 PM PDT by RWR8189
Earlier this week, the U.S. military made public new and disturbing information about the proxy war that Iran is waging against American soldiers and our allies in Iraq.
According to Brig. Gen. Kevin Bergner, the U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, the Iranian government has been using the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah to train and organize Iraqi extremists, who are responsible in turn for the murder of American service members.
Gen. Bergner also revealed that the Quds Force—a special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps whose mission is to finance, arm and equip foreign Islamist terrorist movements—has taken groups of up to 60 Iraqi insurgents at a time and brought them to three camps near Tehran, where they have received instruction in the use of mortars, rockets, improvised explosive devices and other deadly tools of guerrilla warfare that they use against our troops. Iran has also funded its Iraqi proxies generously, to the tune of $3 million a month.
Based on the interrogation of captured extremist leaders—including a 24-year veteran of Hezbollah, apparently dispatched to Iraq by his patrons in Tehran—Gen. Bergner also reported on Monday that the U.S. military has concluded that “the senior leadership” in Iran is aware of these terrorist activities. He said it is “hard to imagine” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—Iran’s supreme leader—does not know of them.

Release A070705b
Six Suspected Terrorists Detained and One Killed by Coalition Forces in Two Separate Raids
BAGHDAD, Iraq Coalition Forces killed one terrorist and detained six suspected terrorists before dawn Thursday in and near Sadr City. It is believed that the suspected terrorists were affiliated with secret cell Special Groups.
Coalition Forces conducted two raids to capture or kill terrorists suspected of providing logistical support to insurgent groups. Intelligence reports indicate that the suspected terrorists targeted during the raid were connected with other key secret cell terrorist leaders and are suspected to have ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Forces.
During the first raid, Coalition Forces were fired upon by terrorists. Coalition Forces returned fire in accordance with the rules of engagement killing one terrorist. There were no Coalition Forces casualties. Coalition Forces confiscated automatic weapons, communications equipment and personal body armor during the raid. In the second raid, Coalition Forces grabbed a single, suspected terrorist without firing a shot.
Coalition troops will continue to target terrorists who have a penchant for killing Coalition Forces, Iraqi Security Forces and innocent Iraqis. said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesman. Coalition Forces will target secret cells wherever they are.

Release A070704a
Coalition Forces kill 25, detain 5 and uncover caches in Diyala
Coalition Forces prepare to clear a house in a neighborhood in Baqubah during operations in Iraq.
BAGHDAD, Iraq Coalition Forces killed 25 terrorists, detained five suspected terrorists and uncovered weapons caches during an operation northeast of Baqubah June 30 July 2.
Coalition Forces conducted the three-day operation near the town of Mukhisa targeting al-Qaeda operatives in support of Operation Arrowhead Ripper.
During a patrol along the Diyala River near Baqubah, Coalition Forces were engaged by three men with rifles and military-style assault vests from across the river. Coalition Forces returned fire and the enemy fire subsided, but enemy reinforced its numbers and escalated to include rocket-propelled grenades.
Coalition Forces determined the enemy fire was coming from an organized terrorist force that had moved into a nearby palm grove. Coalition Forces fired and maneuvered on the enemy and called in close air support from a fixed-wing aircraft. During the engagement Coalition Forces killed an estimated 25 terrorists and the enemy fire stopped. The patrol also observed secondary explosions coming from within the palm grove.
Throughout the firefight, a nearby mosque was broadcasting chants for local residents to rise up against the Coalition Forces; the chants were later replaced by a voice that seemed to be giving orders.
Two suspected terrorists were injured in the engagement and were transported to a military medical facility for treatment.
Searches of the area during the operation uncovered weapons caches containing fire extinguishers rigged as improvised explosive devices, mortar rounds, RPG rounds and small arms. Coalition Forces detained five suspected terrorists for their alleged involvement with al-Qaeda in the area.
We continue to crack down on al-Qaeda operatives, no matter where theyre hiding, said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. The terrorists brand of violence is inconsistent with Iraqi values, and that violence has no place in the future of Iraq.

“Bomb-making guide stresses simplicity
Al-Qaida memo suggests crude, easy-to-get explosives”
By Craig Whitlock, Washington Post
Published July 6, 2007
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “LONDON - The 39-page memo recovered from an al-Qaida laptop computer in Pakistan three years ago read like an Idiot’s Guide to Bomb Making.
Forget military explosives or fancy detonators, it lectured. Instead, the manual advised a shopping trip to a hardware store or pharmacy, where all the necessary ingredients for a terrorist attack are stocked on the shelves.
“Make use of that which is available at your disposal and ... bend it to suit your needs, (improvise) rather than waste valuable time becoming despondent over that which is not within your reach, “ counseled the author of the memo, Dhiren Barot, a British citizen who said he developed his keep-it-simple philosophy by observing senior planners at al-Qaida training camps.”

COMMENTARY SNIPPET: “He also made one other stunning admission: “We don’t really have the ability to enforce the law with respect to illegal work in this country in a way that’s truly effective.”
Whenever a top official in charge of doing a job says it can’t be done, it’s time for that top official to go.
I’m sure there are many qualified people in this country who agree with me that we can enforce our laws effectively and that we must.”

“Jihad tapes targeted professions”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Videos have tried to attract doctors, lawyers and scientists into Islamic extremism for more than a decade, the BBC has learned.
The tapes were used to try to shame Muslim professionals to get more involved in violent jihad.
One film from 1999 seen by the BBC shows a man claiming to be a third-year medical student in Birmingham.
He is shown claiming: “What we lack here is Muslims who are prepared to suffer and sacrifice.””

“New Australia raids over UK bombs”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Computers and other materials were taken from four Western Australian hospitals, two in Perth and two in the Outback mining town of Kalgoorlie.
Police said the doctors questioned had not been charged or arrested.
The raids came as Australian police were given more time to question a relative of two men held in the UK.
Mohammed Haneef was held at Brisbane airport as he tried to leave for India on Monday. He will be questioned by a team that includes a senior counter-terrorism officer from Scotland Yard.
Eight people, all linked to Britain’s National Health Service, have been arrested over the failed attacks in Glasgow and London.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Mr Keelty said the investigation had also widened to a third state - New South Wales.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Mohammed Haneef is the relative of two of the suspects being held in Britain - Kafeel Ahmed, who was badly burned during the attack on Glasgow airport, and his brother, Sabeel, who was arrested in Liverpool.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “It has emerged that the Ahmed brothers applied to work as doctors in Western Australia on numerous occasions but were rejected.
“We checked their qualifications and references and decided that they did not meet the standard required,” Geoff Dobb, the president of the Australian Medical Association in Western Australia, told the Associated Press.
“It had nothing to do with suspicions of any terrorist associations,” he said.
Dr Haneef trained as a doctor in his native India, graduated from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore in 2002.
He arrived in Australia in September 2006 following a period spent in Liverpool.
He took a job as a registrar at the Gold Coast Hospital.
A police spokesman said they were still analysing some 18,000 files on the Indian doctor’s laptop.
Meanwhile, British police on Thursday searched an address in Cambridge as part of their investigation.
It has emerged that four of the suspects were in Cambridge in 2005 and that they knew each other.
Dr Ahmed and Dr Bilal Abdullah, both arrested at Glasgow airport after a burning car was driven into doors of main terminal, were “best mates”, their associate in Cambridge, Shiraz Maher, has told the BBC.
Dr Abdullah was a resident in the city in 2001 and again in 2005.
It has also emerged that Dr Ahmed worked and studied at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, for almost three years.”

MEDICINE’S MURDERERS
NY Post ^ | July 5, 2007 | BARRY RUBIN

THE arrest of seven doctors in the attempted British terror bombings has shocked many people. Sadly, it shouldn’t.
All seven are Muslims working at government-financed hospitals, their salaries paid by the British taxpayer. Dr. Muhammad Hanif practiced at Halton Hospital in Runcorn, Cheshire; Dr. Muhammad Asha, at the North Staffordshire NHS Trust’s University Hospital.
So can doctors be terrorists? Can people who are financially well-off be terrorists? Absolutely. It is ideology, after all, that turns people into terrorists - not suffering.
Indeed, the No. 2 leader of al Qaeda is Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri - who was previously a stalwart of the Muslim Brotherhood in his native Egypt. Zawahiri made the connections that led to his role in al Qaeda when he went to Afghanistan in 1980 to provide medical care for jihadists fighting the Soviets. Later, he was a key architect of the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed hundreds of innocents, and of the 9/11 attacks.

—snip—
Consider, too, the kind of people who become doctors - relatively intelligent, well-organized, hard-working. These are valuable skills both in leading terrorist groups and in carrying out operations.
Yes, we in the West expect the study of medicine to produce humanists - men and women who view all life as sacred, dedicated to broad service for humanity.
But it is also an intellectual endeavor - exposing one to other intellectual currents in the surrounding world. And in much of the Muslim world, the strongest currents have been the various extremisms that promote terrorism.
And the doctrines of radical Arab nationalism and Islamism (like the one that motivated those totalitarians working in concentration camps six decades ago) view their enemies as sub-human. Toward them, those trained in healing are quite willing to become doctors of death.

When the going gets tough, Allahs brave soldiers hide behind women and children.
“Pakistan Says Militants Prevent Surrender by Students,” by Khalid Qayum and Khaleeq Ahmed for Bloomberg:
July 5 (Bloomberg) — Thirty ‘’hardcore’’ militants are preventing students at the Red Mosque in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, from surrendering amid a siege of the mosque by security forces, the government said.
The militants ‘’are using women and children as shields,’’ Javed Iqbal Cheema, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, told reporters in Islamabad today. A total of 1,146 students have surrendered since yesterday, he said. At least 16 people have been killed in gun battles between students and police.
Despicable.

Musharraf plane fired on -Pakistan security official

Excerpt -
ISLAMABAD, July 6 (Reuters) - Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s plane was fired on as it took off on Friday from a military airfield in Rawalpindi, an intelligence officer said, contradicting official denials.
Musharraf’s plane arrived safely in the southwestern town of Turbat, where the president visited flood victims, and the military denied there had been any attack.
But an intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there had been an unsuccessful attempt on Musharraf’s life, and no arrests were made.
A Reuters photographer saw two large guns mounted on the roof of a two-storey house in the congested area close to the airport, and a neighbour said he heard the firing.

THREE BRIDGEPORT MEN CHARGED WITH RACKETEERING MURDERS
Kevin J. OConnor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that a federal grand jury in Bridgeport has returned an Indictment charging AZIBO AQUART, also known as Azibo Smith, Azibo Siwatu Jahi Smith, D, Dreddy, and Jumbo, age 26; AZIKIWE AQUART, also known as Z and Zee, age 28, and, EFRAIN JOHNSON, also known as Pootney, age 25, all of Bridgeport, with three counts of Murder in Aid of Racketeering and one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder in Aid of Racketeering in connection with the August 24, 2005 murders of Tina Johnson, age 43; James Reid, age 40, and Basil Williams, age 54. The seven-count Indictment was returned yesterday, June 28. Each of the three defendants appeared today before Senior United States District Judge Peter C. Dorsey and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
The Indictment alleges that AZIBO AQUART was the leader of a drug trafficking group that primarily sold crack cocaine in the Charles Street Apartments in Bridgeport, and that AZIBO AQUART and his associates participated in acts of violence, such as threats and assaults, to maintain their control over the groups drug distribution activities at the Charles Street Apartments. The Indictment further alleges that, in the summer of 2005, the group became involved in a drug trafficking dispute with a rival, and that, on August 24, 2005, AZIBO AQUART, AZIKIWE AQUART and JOHNSON participated in the assault and murder of Tina Johnson, James Reid and Basil Williams.
The Indictment charges each of the three defendants with Violent Crime in Aid of Racketeering (VCAR) Conspiracy to Murder the three victims. If convicted of this charge, each defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
The Indictment further charges each of the three defendants with VCAR Murder. If convicted of this charge, each defendant faces a mandatory minimum term of life imprisonment, on each count. In addition, because the VCAR Murder counts are death penalty eligible, the Indictment sets forth a Notice of Special Findings as to each defendant that details the death penalty qualifying factors and the aggravating factors the Government would have to prove if it decides to seek the death penalty.
AZIBO AQUART and AZIKIWE AQUART are also charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distributing more than 50 grams of cocaine base (crack cocaine). If convicted of this charge, AZIBO AQUART faces a mandatory lifetime term of imprisonment due to his prior narcotics trafficking convictions, and AZIKIWE AQUART faces a minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum term of life.
AZIKIWE AQUART is also charged with possessing with intent to distribute cocaine base. If convicted of this charge, he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
Finally, AZIBO AQUART is charged with possession of firearms and ammunition by a previously convicted felon. If convicted of this charge, he faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years.
As each of the defendants is charged with death penalty eligible murder offenses, the U.S. Attorneys Office will review the case as to each defendant and will submit a recommendation to the Department of Justices Capital Case Unit. The Attorney General of the United States will determine whether the Government will seek or not seek the death penalty as to each defendant. As revealed in court proceedings today, the death penalty review process in this case will begin immediately.
U.S. Attorney OConnor stressed that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Each defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the Governments burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
U.S. Attorney OConnor commended the joint investigation of this matter, which is being conducted by the Bridgeport Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Connecticut State Police, the Bridgeport States Attorneys Office and the U.S. Attorneys Office.
This case is being prosecuted by James I. Glasser, Counsel to the U.S. Attorney, and Assistant United States Attorney Alina P. Reynolds.
