:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
US Steps Up Security Following Attack in Britain

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made appearances on several television talk shows.

He told ABC's This Week program there is no indication of a linkage between the events in Britain and any specific attacks on the United States. "We do not have, at this point, specific, credible intelligence that there is an attack, a particular attack, focused on this country," he said.

But at the same time, speaking on CNN's Late Edition program, Chertoff said U.S. authorities are concerned about the threat of terrorism, especially in the coming months. "We have had a number of al-Qaida leaders quite publicly talking about how they want to carry out their threats against the West. So, given that and given the history that we have had over past summers, with attacks in Britain, I think we were clearly focused on this as a possibility," he said. Full story...

There was a funeral a long while ago where lots of AQ were gathered, and the army failed to launch their attack, even though there were all gathered in one place and in the sites of the planes. They stated it was out of respect for the funeral.

for some reason i have a hard time picturing mercy on AQ members, whether they are at a funeral or at a mosque it’s usually shoot on sight. those army commanders in no way respect 9/11 therefore i don’t think they would respect a funeral where they have them all in a bunch. it just sounds iffy to me, sorry.

Could that have been OBL’s funeral? Also, there has been lots of talk that OBL wants to “Die in the Belly of the Beast”. What if he’s already dead and they either put his body in the vehicle they use for the attack, or his ashes? They he has “died” in the onslauhght in their eyes/

I really doubt it. If he died somehow, someone out there would have caught chatter about his death IMO. It wouldn’t be a secret considering theres thousands of them on the net. someone would have leaked it and a forum intercepter (sorry i’m using new lingo) would have picked up on it. imo...

He says he wants to die in the belly of the beast/eagle meaning the states. Really, what if after a major attack when security is -very- leniant he is on a plane with a camera in front of him going into a monument? or getting off a plane on us soil with dynamite all over his body? i can’t picture too many of his martyrdom scenerios although i’ve tried lol. they are almost cartoonish!

But he is their iconic figure, and martyrdom is their way of war so i’m sure his -own- final touch will be some way of killing himself during an operation on the states. if it comes to that. it’s very far fetched but don’t underestimate these ppl, it took them 8 years to try another WTC attack. with the martyrdom he preaches i’m sure he would want to go that way.

Maybe thats why his presence is so low, maybe he’s not in the afghanistan/pakistan border but inching his way closer to the states somehow?

it really makes you think. these guys are nutjobs, extreme to say the least and the leader will do whatever he can to inspire the next generation and the rest.

Again, all we are left with is one big question mark. they are too fn crafty and patient.

- In a nutshell, I have no clue whats up their sleeves but i have a strong feeling he’s alive and waiting for something big before something “new”.

Unfortunately, time will tell. At least we here aren’t oblivious to the fact and i thank you guys for that. It’s a forum where i believe we are facing the biggest threat known to man with todays technology and their infiltration method.

*hands out xanax and red wine to you all.

take care guys!

-h

UK: Muslim beats man to death as “Allah was telling him how to bring about world peace”

Unfortunately he is not the first to get the idea that peace will come through the killing of the kuffar. From CourtNewsUK (thanks to a tea-loving snail):

BENOMOR:CRAZED IMMIGRANT BEAT MAN TO DEATH WITH HIS BARE HANDS HARLINGTON, MIDDSX. A Tunisian immigrant beat a man to death with his bare hands and feet believing Allah was telling him how to bring about world peace, a court heard. Israel, Syria Boost Military Presence Along Border
WorldNetDaily ^ | July 23, 2007 | Aaron Klein

Posted on 07/23/2007 9:44:31 AM PDT by Fennie

GOLAN HEIGHTS - Israel has visibly beefed up its military presence here in the Golan Heights while neighboring Syria reportedly has placed its army on high alert and - for the first time in 30 years - has opened a strategic border road to civilian traffic in a move some Israeli security officials worry could help facilitate guerilla attacks against Golani Jewish communities.

A tour of the Golan Heights yesterday found multiple Israeli army positions local residents and soldiers stationed here say were established within the past few weeks. More tanks have been patrolling the area, with several tanks setting up shop in strategic positions looking down on Syria. Makeshift military outposts have been erected and Golan checkpoints fortified.

Several old Israeli Defense Forces military installations in the Golan were reopened the last two months. According to local soldiers, the installations have been largely unused since the 1980s.

In several Golan positions near the Syrian border, IDF tractors cleared the way in recent weeks so that tanks can amass in the area if needed, said soldiers stationed here.

The security officials confirmed the stepped-up military presence of Syrian troops deployed near the Syrian side of the Golan Heights with strengthened forces after carrying out increased training the past few months...

Syrian Official: War with Israel will be Ballistic
Arutz 7 ^ | July 23, ‘07 | Gil Ronen

Posted on 07/23/2007 10:05:12 AM PDT by Nachum

(IsraelNN.com) Syria sees the next war with Israel as involving missile attacks on civilian infrastructure and front-line guerilla warfare, an anonymous senior official in the Syrian Ministry of Defense told Defense News Weekly, in an interview appearing Monday. Syria prefers to avoid a direct, “classic” confrontation with Israel, he said. Instead, the next war will involve Katyusha rocket and ballistic missiles that will target strategic points in Israel, especially civilian infrastructure.

The official said that the war will not be limited to a single strike, but will be protracted in nature. “This will be a war of attrition, which the Israelis are not good at,” he explained. The conflict, he said, “will be more like a war between cities than a war on the battlefield.”

According to Arab affairs expert Dr. Guy Bechor, the Syrian assessment is a result of the Second Lebanon War. After that war the Syrians understood that they do not need a large ground force to defeat Israel, but rather missiles aimed at dense Israeli population centers. For the past two years the Syrians have been engaged in massive acquisitions from Russia, after an $11 billion debt was partially forgiven by Russia in 2005, and partially covered by Iran.

Following the unimpressive performance by the IDF in last year’s war, Bechor explains, Syria beg The conflict, he said, will be more like a war between cities than a war on the battlefield. an equipping itself with advanced anti-aircraft missiles, anti-tank missiles and cruise missiles.

The Syrian army numbers 650,000 soldiers, including 354,000 reservists, according to Defense News. Its tanks are outdated Soviet models, however, and its air force is inferior to Israel’s.

The London-based daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat recently reported that Syria has deployed Chinese C-802 cruise missiles, which it acquired from Iran. In addition, Russia has expressed its willingness to sell the Syrians its Iskander missile, which has a range of 280 kilometers, more than enough to strike at any destination in Israel. The missile features an optical GPS navigational system that allows operators to guide it to their targets.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat also reported Saturday that Iran secretly promised Syria it would provide $1 billion for buying advanced weapons and assist it with nuclear research and the development of chemical weapons, in exchange for a Syrian promise not to negotiate peace with Israel. However, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman dismissed the report as a “media game” and asked how the media could know about the deal if it was confidential.

Arab affairs experts also questioned the veracity of the report, noting that it was written by an exiled Iranian who may simply have wanted to portray Iran’s leadership in a bad light.

Keeping The Flying Imams Airborne
IBD ^ | July 20, 2007

Posted on 07/21/2007 5:37:56 AM PDT by Kaslin

Homeland Security: Despite overwhelming support in and out of Congress, legal protection for airline passengers who report suspicious behavior is being blocked by Democratic leaders. Wasn’t one 9/11 enough for them?

Were it not for the courage and sacrifice of the passengers of United Flight 93 who forced their plane into a Pennsylvania field, many in Congress might not be here today, with a gaping hole where the U.S. Capitol still stands. We wonder if this fact is appreciated by those trying to block final passage of the so-called “John Doe” provision protecting from legal action those who report suspicious behavior on airplanes.

Today’s passengers have an advantage. They know what can happen. They know what to look for. They will not be taken by surprise, and they are willing to take action. But some in Congress would sacrifice their lives on the altar of political correctness.

Last November, six Muslim imams leaving an Islamic conference were removed from U.S. Airways Flight 300 in Minneapolis when passengers reported that the imams had acted in suspicious ways. Both U.S. Airways and the passengers soon became targets of legal action charging discrimination and racial profiling.

Coalition Forces Continue to Close in on Terrorists Networks

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, July 23, 2007 – Coalition forces captured 12 suspected terrorists during operations targeting al Qaeda and its logistics networks around Iraq today.

Coalition raids of safe houses in Mosul, Yusafiyah, Tarmiyah and south of Baghdad resulted in the capture of individuals suspected of facilitating the movement of foreign terrorists into and around Iraq for al Qaeda operations.

“Foreign terrorists who come to Iraq to support al Qaeda will find no safe haven to operate from,” said Army Maj. Marc Young, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesman. “We will not tolerate terrorists’ indiscriminate attacks against innocent Iraqis.”

In operations yesterday, U.S. Special Forces advised elements of 2nd Iraqi Army Division and 3rd Iraqi Army Brigade in separate missions resulting in the detention of key operatives near Taji.

In one mission, Iraqi troops detained a high-level financier of al Qaeda-affiliated Islamic army of Iraq. The individual is alleged to be responsible for financing numerous attacks against innocent Iraqi and coalition forces over the past two years. Iraqi forces seized $20,000 worth of Iraqi currency, documents and computer equipment during the operation.

In the other mission, the troops detained seven suspected al Qaeda terrorists. One is allegedly a key weapons supplier who has armed foreign fighters and other terrorist operatives in Iraq. Forces confiscated 77 assault rifles during the mission. “This successful mission is another demonstration of the Iraqi security forces and national government’s resolve to stopping violent criminal elements and ensuring the safety of their people,” a senior coalition advisor said.

Also yesterday, Multinational Division Baghdad troops in the western part of the city found a factory in which explosively formed penetrators, the most deadly form of roadside bomb, were being made. Roughly 300 pounds of homemade explosives and parts were found, in addition to a disassembled anti-tank mine, two rocket-propelled-grenade sights, 14 copper plates and two video cameras.

In other operations over the past few days:

— First Calvary Division soldiers freed three Iraqi civilians and detained their four kidnappers in a house south of Samarra on July 21.

— Iraq security forces and U.S. Special Forces detained five individuals suspected of conducting terrorist activities in Mosul during an early-morning operation July 21. Iraqi forces seized five assault rifles, 14 weapons magazines, one chest rig, a bayonet, four cell phones, two soldering irons, numerous electronic components, and three automobiles.

— A precision air strike destroyed a tanker truck loaded with explosives during Operation Marne Avalanche northeast of Haswah on July 20. An F-16 fighter jet dropped two 500-pound bombs on the truck and destroyed it.

— Coalition forces killed nine terrorists, detained eight suspected terrorists and uncovered weapons caches during an operation near Muqdadiyah on July 20-21. The ground forces discovered a terrorist safe house hiding a weapons cache of rifles, ammunition, a rocket-propelled-grenade launcher, mortars, assault vests and camouflage uniforms.

“We’re targeting al Qaeda members and leaders no matter where they hide,” Young said. “These terrorists operate with a system of values totally inconsistent with those of the Iraqi people.”

Afghan, Coalition Forces Defeat Insurgent Ambush

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, July 23, 2007 – Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces were attacked by an unknown number of enemy fighters during a patrol on the western side of the Helmand River in the Musa Qalah district of Afghanistan’s Helmand province yesterday.

The Afghan-led patrol was near Shaban Village when insurgents began attacking with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms, officials reported. The combined patrol repelled the initial attack with small-arms fire.

Coalition forces were then engaged by a suspected insurgent suicide vehicle bomber. Two insurgents were killed and the vehicle was destroyed during this engagement.

Immediately after the vehicle was destroyed, more than seven insurgents from two compounds within Shaban Village began firing on the forces, military officials said. Close-air support was called in to suppress the large number of enemy fighters within the compounds.

Coalition air support dropped one 500-pound bomb on one of the compounds, and ground forces immediately moved into the compound to assess the damage.

As the battle continued, additional insurgents arrived to reinforce the enemy positions within 500 meters of Shaban village. The combined force maneuvered to defendable positions and then directed close-air support to drop munitions on positively identified enemy positions. A total of four bombs were dropped during the engagement, and more than two dozen enemy fighters were killed in the prolonged battle.

“The insurgents further demonstrate their intentions to kill Afghan civilians and destroy Afghanistan with these actions,” said Army Maj. Chris Belcher, a Combined Joint Task Force 82 spokesman. “By attacking the pro-government forces from civilian areas, the insurgents are knowingly placing innocent Afghans in the line of fire to create more civilian casualties. This is simply unacceptable, and the world should condemn their actions.”

In other operations, Afghan National Police continued taking the lead in providing security and civil order in their country executing a unilateral mission ending in the arrest of a key terrorist leader in the Nangarhar province July 21.

Afghan officers arrested Shir Agha at his home in Tutu village and later turned him over to coalition forces in the area. The Afghan National Police leadership had minimal coalition assistance during the planning and execution of the operation.

“This operation is indicative of the Nangarhar Afghan National Police’s capacity to conduct successful high-risk operations as a unilateral force,” Belcher said. “The ANP’s ability to enforce law and order in Nangarhar province is demonstrated by their execution of successful missions that support the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.“

Border agents assaulted Sunday (Yuma)

Agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection were assaulted by people throwing rocks Sunday during the arrest of two illegal immigrants near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Luis, Ariz.

The rocks failed to strike an agent, but one did shatter the window of a marked Border Patrol vehicle, according to Albert Bosco, public affairs specialist with CBP.

The federal organization reported Monday that its agents working in the Yuma sector have experienced a 43 percent increase in assaults between Oct. 1, 2006, and June 30. A total of 122 incidents were reported during the same period of last fiscal year, compared to this fiscal year’s total of 174.

The rocking-throwing incident happened around noon Sunday after agents apprehended two people who had illegally entered the U.S. While agents were taking those people into custody, individuals on the Mexico side of the international boundary fence began throwing rocks toward the agents.

A man neighbors described as a retired factory worker shot three people to death and wounded two others before killing himself in a southwest Atlanta home Monday, authorities said.

All of the victims were believed to be related, Atlanta police spokesman Eric Schwartz said.

The gunman was identified by police as Abdulaziz Ibrahim, 52. Officers also found the bodies of Hana Yusuf, 26, and Luna Tesfaye, 24, Schwartz said. Another victim, Mohammad Ibrahim, 28, died at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Three-year-old Amir Abdulhakim was in critical condition at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, and Yusef Ibrahim, 27, was in stable condition at Grady, police said.

The shooting began around 7 a.m. in a house about a half-mile east of Interstate 75, police said.
