The Talk Shows
Sunday, July 1st, 2007
Guests to be interviewed today on major television talk shows:
FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff; Michael Gallagher, conservative talk radio host; Mark Green of Air America Radio.
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind.
THIS WEEK (ABC): Chertoff; Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.
LATE EDITION (CNN) : Chertoff; House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.; Lanny Davis, former Clinton special counsel; Ben Ginsberg, former counsel to the Republican National Committee; former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski; former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
So Chertoff and the Administration are basically sticking a finger in our eye and telling us if you want enforcement, you come up with the ideas at the same time he is telling us he is doing lots of enforcement.
Congress also ignores the Constitution. Why should laws matter?
I haven’t heard of that.
I know they try to blow holes in it to do snatch and grab missions on the IDF.
Exactly!!
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal....theoretically!
I always thought that there should be a limit on campaign spending. A much lower limit. Then we could see who can do the best job of budgeting and getting the most for their buck. And who might do the best job of getting the most for spending federal monies.
To answer your last point which from the smilie at the end I realise is partly toungue in cheek. The Royal Family although some may say what function do they have (constitutionally they do have as the Queen is our head of State) you only have to read a few posts on FR when the Royals make a visit to realise they are very popular even in American.
They make millions probably billions for our tourist industry for one thing. How many Americans coming to Britain want to see the changing of the guard or visit a Royal Palace.
Pretty much.
The administrations stance on this Edsel of an Immigration bill is to the point of lunacy.
They are lashing out at critics like Democrats.
You’d think that after the weekend attacks that were thwarted and the almost successful one in Glasgow...the open borders Republicans would get the clue.
The same type of immigration policy they want for this country is what’s turning Europe into the next Islamic state.
As an American citizen, I do not want "big brother" looking over my shoulder, or to have the "show me zah papers" forced on ME. The burden of proof should be with those that are only here to work/make money.
I think there is some misunderstanding on this point.
Unbelievable. It was an insistence on having jurists who adhere to the Constitution.
it was unfortunately done for the best of motives
&&&&
I was just addressing Britain’s situation, not the motives. Britain is caught in such a bind with disaffected “asians” because of history. We are more fortunate in America, not to have such an entrenched social welfare system (although dem legislators have tried their best to institute it).
Also we have had a much smaller classification of immigrants “entitled” to entry.
So the majority of immigrants to America, even those of muslim faith, have adopted the American outlook on capitalism and want to get rich, just like non-muslim Americans. We have plenty of ‘disaffected youth’ but I don’t believe that the number or ratio is anywhere close to the rate in the UK.
From their POV (point of view) we are NOT all created equal.
Ms. Mitchell and her husband, and their employers,
constitute the superclass of overlords. The rest of us, sheeple,
are here to listen and obey.
You watch...the next attempted/thwarted/successful terrorist attack in this country will be spun to blame (pick one or more)
1) conservatives
2) the ignorant American people
3) talk radio
4) xenophobic, racist bigots
...for the failure of CIR, a bill which, if passed, would have stopped the attack.
I’m listening to this Mark Green and I am understanding why liberal radio doesn’t make it in the real world.

You will love this one and the next which one again questions the competence of former CIA director George Tenet.
I can’t stand author Isikoff but every once in a while...the get it right.
That's an easy one. The Open border types are holding secure borders [including a process to track and deport visa overstays] hostage to comprehensive immigration reform. They don't want secure borders, which is why they [WH and Dems] have dragged their feet in eforcing our existing laws [Secure Fence Act of 2006 and the 1996 US Visit act] and just pay lip service to real border enforcement. If you hold a separate debate on how to handle the 12 to 20 million illegals already here, the first thing you need are reliable data. How can you make good public policy without knowing the scope of the problem and its impact? In 1986, the USG estimated that 1 million would apply for amnesty. The number turned out to be three million.
How about corruption payoffs? Perhaps the most likely motive
for the Edsel bill, and the attack on the conservative
base, which is a most infantile response.
Thanks, snugs.
