Now that Bush has effectively split the GOP, the Dems can get back to ending the war and embarassing the administration through hearings and subpoenas.
But Immigration Reform is dead unitl the next resident is in office.
Be advised - Harry Reid just said after the vote that “the bill will be back - I don’t know when.”
Also, watching on CSpan, I notice that both Brownback and Voinovich initially cast Aye votes, then changed their votes to No once the issue was decided. There may be others.
But this battle is won. Congrats to us all.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! We’ve averted this disaster, at least for the time being. Perhaps there is hope yet that our legislators are actually smarter than they appear...

BTW: We cannot let our guard down. They will try something. Either attaching it to other bills or midnight tricks or something.
As someone mentioned on another thread: we will have to watch them with a level of vigilance that even FReepers are not accustomed to.

I’ve made my outraged, hopping mad calls over this fiasco.
Time to make nice ones to both he and Webb and say, “THANKS!”
Now we have the momentum. This fight needs to be continued. Keep calling the Senators, Congress, and the President and insist that they now enforce the laws on the books.
I, for one, am NOT content with the fact that we have up to 30 million illegals in the country. Lets work on getting them removed via ENFORCEMENT.
We have won the battle, now let’s win the war.
