Late Wednesday, two Republicans, Sens. Kit Bond of Missouri and Richard Burr of North Carolina, told FOX News that they will switch their vote and not try to prevent the filibuster. One Democrat who never votes against cloture, Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, also told FOX News that he will vote “no” this time.
“Enough is enough. There have been seven cloture votes I’ve voted yes on. This is an extraordinary circumstance. But enough is enough. ... This clay pigeon is looking like a dead duck,” Nelson said.
The clay pigeon refers to the amendments that were introduced as one large package shot into 27 smaller pieces to prevent anyone from being able to block the bill. Critics have said Reid’s decision to use the clay pigeon was high-handed, and both Bond and Burr said they don’t consider it to be a fair process.
At least nine other senators told FOX News they are undecided or leaning toward a no vote. They include Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor, Jim Webb, Jeff Bingaman, Robert Menendez and Republican Sens. Ted Stevens, Lisa Murkowski, Pete Domenici, Judd Gregg and John Ensign.
Tuesday's vote to move onto the bill was 64-35, four votes more than was needed to keep the legislation alive. But if five Republicans are lost as a result of the amendment, then it's bye-bye bill.
Amnesty ping!
This article is a must read. It looks like the Bill will be Killed!
Let's hope so.
I want to see existing law enforced.
“The vote, on whether to shut down debate and move to final passage, now appears likely to lose the extra bit of Republican support it had picked up during Tuesday’s vote to continue working on the comprehensive package.”
Could lose Democratic support too, Obama may not like debate on his amendment cut off by the whim of the rulers. I don’t see why an avid and sincere supporter of the bill wouldn’t mind more debate.
Once it is clear that the 60 votes are not there, why would any of the guys on the fence walk the plank and vote for cloture? Wouldn’t it be likely almost all of these guys vote no? I would think all of the rats would start jumping off of the sinking ship.

What’s the new latest bill number?
It was a huge no-win for them.
Let’s all grab a shovel (and hand them out to friends and relatives)

Please feel free to use at will:
The path to citizenship is NOT the objection to the current immigration bill!
It is the immediate legalization without having first secured the border, provided for meaningful background checks, and subsequent issuance of tamperproof IDs.
It is that probationary status is renewable every four years.
It is lack of a system to manage the VISIT system, which would keep track of people who overstay their VISAs.
It is the tripling of chain migration, before closing the door in 2016.
There is no true incentive for illegal immigrants to get on the path to citizenship!
And finally, I object to the proponents of this bill pretending that Im a racist, instead of addressing my true objections above.
I have been watching this weasel like a hawk. If he actually said this, it will be the very first plain statement he has ever made.
Everything...EVERYTHING...he has said up to now has been loaded up with tricky wording which sought to allow the questioner to hear what he wanted to hear but gave the weasel an escape clause.
I lost it today and told the weasel (via email)...well, better not repeat it here. It was not a threat...just good, old-testament-style damnation!
I was tired of sweet reason and decided to let him taste the rage.
He can do nothing about securing the border, i.e. the status quo. This would seem to be his preferred choice.
Or, he could finally, after six and a half years, get serious about border control and employer sanctions, i.e. enforce existing law. Since he has declared the status quo to be a "crisis," this would be the logical choice - but does anybody expect logic?
For the Democrats, I would strongly suggest taking a pro-union/anti-illegal alien stance (i.e. they are taking our jobs) rather than using the conservative national security angle.
