Hubby went to WalMart in Pennsylvania today. At the main entrance is a Gardasil booth handing out pamphlets. There was a line of parents so Hubby started a rant. He asked the woman why not just teach your daughters to keep their knickers on? Her answer was because they won't. Hubby responded that our daughter is in her 20's and still a virgin. She responded that daughters lie. He offered to let our "female tiger" talk to her.
At that point the woman asked if he was on his cellphone. He said "Yes" And how about this not being tested on 9 to 11 yr olds, your target group" She responded that it's been tested on 12 year olds. He said "You have no idea what the longterm affects of this drug are on reproduction"
At that point she didn't want to spar anymore and said "It's safe". But by then Hubby had already planted doubts and the parents in line had heard it all. I LOVE Hubby.
Anyone else need to visit a WalMart today?
Good for your husband (and daughter!).
My doctor mentioned the vaccine when I had my 9-year-old daughter in for her camp physical recently, but she (the doctor) kind of shook her head in a disgusted way.
Good to hear the Taliban is alive and well in America.
It's been a long time since my research days but I think this is unethical.
Kudos to your hubby! Great job!
If they can’t get the states to make it mandatory, they’ll go directly to the parents with their propaganda.
just who is your husband to question the judgment of a mother of a sexually active 12 year old ???
/sarc off
Merck was to test it this spring on 100 Japanese girls, 9 to 11 or 12. I haven’t checked if they did that. The girls tested in several countries were all 16 to 25.
Ping. FYI
I’ll check back when I get home this evening.
Why just girls?
He told the woman that HPV was an STD and she tried to say that it wasn't. He told her if it's sexually transmitted, it's an STD. The parents that were standing there didn't realise the cancer this "guarded" against is only transmitted sexually. God Bless him, those parents heard facts.
That’s just wrong.
I remember when I worked psych it was controversial (although allowed) to give the antidepressants to the kids. They were approved for use with adults but not children. There were a few drugs like that.
Uh, last time I checked it was pretty hard for boys to get cervical cancer.
I haven't kept up with this but the last thing I read said they were thinking of testing it on boys too.
If memory serves, this was tested on women who found
it caused menstrual pain, and therefore
it is being forced on younger girls in the hope
the side effects will be averted.
As to longterm oncogenic effects, what if that
takes 10 to 20 years?
Yes but boys can spread the virus.
I agree. And what parent lets their child be a guinea pig?
LOL. I've got a big problem with the state making it mandatory. If parents want to get for their kids in private commerce, more power to them.
Then again, if a Bible-thumper's daughter ends up with an STD-related cancer, I'm sure there are a few passages of scripture that can be quoted..."wages of sin are death," etc. Few things are more absurd than interpreting holy books to promote death and disease as the will of God. The flip side of the "touchdown Jesus" coin. Same alternative reality that believes the harder one thumps a Bible, the less likely it is a child will have sex before 18.
It’s nice to see I have at least one kindred spirit on here. I’m sure we’ll both be banned shortly.
You really have to wonder about some parents. What replaces the brain in their heads? They are encouraging possiby a lifetime of suffering and agony for their own children.
Is there a medical term more readily understandable than Sexually - Transmited - Disease ????? You don’t get them from genes or even second-hand smoke.
I join you in blessing your husband for possibly saving some young girls by diminishing their parents’ ignorance.
I don’t quite understand your posts but that’s ok. This is just common sense. You don’t give a prepubescent girl a drug that isn’t proven safe for the age group. What affect will it have on reproduction? They don’t know. Is one shot enough? They don’t know. My kid isn’t a guinea pig or a goldmine for Merck.
