Hi DennisW its Johnny Cash fan from the UK.
Q. What is the difference between a dead hippy in the road and a dead dog in the road ?
A. You’ll see skid marks in front of the dog.
That’s a lawyer joke too. The hippies were 40 years ago, I don’t see how they have much influence over today
It is this pseudo philosophy, which purports to be an extension of Socratic dialectics (discussion to discover truth) but which is actually the antithesis of Socratic dialectics (for it claims there is no such thing as truth) that enabled a large part of a generation to denounce American history and ideals and replace it with multi-cultism, replace Judeo-Christian beliefs with secularism, turn criminals into victims, and label hard-working people Capitalist pigs so that they could encourage the populace to legally steal their earnings from them to redistribute.
It also enabled them to redefine “love” and “marriage” so that they could whore themselves in an escape of self-serving debauchery and eventually spawn the acceptance of homosexuality, this to the not-so-laughable hypocrisy of denouncing priests who molest young boys (an attack on the Church) while demanding that “gay” scout leaders be allowed to lead boy scout troops, overlooking the common factor in these two issues: homosexual men in the authority positions that give them access to their prey.
They were also instrumental in adopting French post-modern thought, which is the grandfather of moral relativism and which sired gender studies, Marxist studies, feminist studies, colonialist studies, and racial studies, all from the same anti-American, pro-Communist perspective, which has utterly destroyed higher education. Yes, these can be interesting perspectives and a fresh view from the classical approach (objective critical analysis), but they should be offered as an alternative, not set up as entire degrees and programs that would eventually subvert entire institutions.
We are still paying and will continue to pay for a few generations at least, the bill they have foolishly rung up with their Socialistic programs. 3-5 trillion dollars later spent on the war on poverty and they are still complaining about the have’s and the have-not’s and bemoaning the divide between rich and poor. They want to take still more from those who work and sacrifice to give to those who won’t.
As I’ve said before on another thread, the leftist Baby Boomers, with their arrogance and selfishness, have caused so many troubles that the only hope of national recovery from those problems will be if we can keep alive the American ideals, the Judeo-Christian ethic, and the love of rugged individualism and liberty long enough to pass on to some patriots that can turn the country back to what it was after the last Leftist Baby Boomer is dead.
Peace, love activism. Disgusting Baby Boomers. Thank God I am a Generation X’er. I would be so embarrassed to be a boomer. My poor parents are the beginning of the boomers and they hate it. What a group of nasty people. Boomers definitely destroyed America and deserve the blame. Xer’s are trying hard to fix it but the damage is so bad that it will take the next generation to continue it. My parents born in 1946 and I was born in 1969.
Dysfunction, depravity, and license guised in the cloak of "peace, love and activism."
And you think that all of our current problems can be blamed on those things - that we don't also suffer the effects of greed, vanity, lust for power, apathy, hatred and bigotry - all the things that are anathema to the opposite excesses of the hippie movement? I still maintain that is not a rational proposition.
Well said. Thank you for that.
Insulting fellow compatriots...fellow Americans; just like the hippies. How original.
The first presidential election X'ers participated in, they elected Bill Clinton.
Marxism + Debauchery + Drug Abuse = Hippie
Hippies mainly consisted of spoiled middle-class boomers who constructed a false angst on materialism and denouncing the very life that their parents and grandparents sacrificed to give them after 2 world wars and a long depression.
We handed them the means to turn the federal government into the ham-fisted nanny it is today with the New Deal. That steaming pile of socialist sophistry should have been stomped on. We can piss and moan about how "the hippies" are to blame for it all, but I think we need to face the fact that the "Greatest Generation" had no small role in turning us down the path to socialism.
great post sundog....i need to remember that word degenerata
it’s amazing the disconnect between recent history as taught or implied and how it really was...
civil rights struggles and hippies and college radicals are all case in point
all of that was a small minority of that demographic at the time but the way younger folks are taught today one would think most boomers were hippies, most college students were Weathermen, and that lynchings were hourly and Bull Conner was a national hero...
it’s a distortion that is damaging
LOL! I love it.
Your drunk obviously but you are way off target. Reread your post and see how wrong you are.
Thanks....I was talking about my youth with my 75 year old mom yesterday at her home. We were lamenting how my older daughters feel pretty serious pressure to go to the best schools and achieve early and just at times seem more angst than kids used to and we worry that my younger boys are starting out the same way with fancy kindergartens and prep grade schools and what not....like we have a choice with Nashville public.
She commented how in my day in the early to late 70s, we were more concerned about hanging out with our buddies, getting lucky enough to occasionally have a southern lass fall in our lap...a few did...one permananetly thank God, and yes partying....even pot and beer and whatnot and looking forward to hunting season and backpacking out west and Alaska in summers to avoid that horrible Mississippi summer swelter. We were just more relaxed with an eye on the future and optimistic but enjoying our youth and oats....
My daughters even with all their advantage, just don’t seem as optimistic and that looks like it’s culture-wide.
but back to the original point....yes there was little to the hippie indulgences to be admired....some of that back to nature communal stuff was so flawed and messianic...very little of it worked....and irresponsible parenting is wrong in any generation.
The hippies that I knew in the day were absolutely clueless and worthless and afraid of me. At least I knew I was projecting something that was right.
ping!
