The Bush administration is nearing a decision to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and move terror suspects from there to military prisons on U.S. soil.
According to the Associated Press, President George W. Bush's top national security and legal advisers are expected to discuss the move at the White House on Friday and it appears a consensus is developing for the first time among Bush's inner circle.
They will consider a new proposal to shut the highly controversial prison, built at a US military enclave on the southern tip of Cuba, and transfer nearly 400 detainees to one or more U.S. Defense Department facilities, including the maximum security military prison at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, where they could face trial, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing internal deliberations.
Officials familiar with the agenda of Friday's meeting said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff, National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell, Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Peter Pace and Vice President Dick Cheney are likely to attend.
It was not immediately clear whether the meeting will result in a final recommendation on Guantanamo to President Bush..
so we spent how much to build all the facilities down there?
I can't @#$#@$((!@#( believe they're even considering this BAD BAD BAD BAD move!
All that money wasted because liberals were offended by the orange roughy served to the murdering terrorists. Just a matter of time before some ACLU lawyer gets them released into our country or someone elses..
W is planning to give "Z" cards to the terrorists!
One of the uninhabited Islands in Northern Alaska?
I’m soooooo over this administration!!!!!!!!
How about we just shoot the bastards there? Once they get on American soil, every Brett Girl attorney is going to start sueing the US to get these turban heads released on bail.
Meadow Muffin
It’s what the Democrats and the NWO want...Bush falls into line again.
Great, the moment these scumsuckers have full-time access to ACLU lawyers, Democrat publicists, MSM sympathy, and the intricacies of US civilian law, the WOT is well on the way to being lost. If we cannot handle the Guantanamo terrorists properly we cannot handle anything. The ‘Rats, RINOs, and UN-twits are winning.
Has this guy gone f-—ing nuts?
DECISION NEAR TO CLOSE GUANTANAMO
Drudge.
This is the most stupid move the current administration could do.
The area is secure, free from insurgent attack.
Shaking my head at this.
''And I would not let any of those people go,'' he said. ``I would simply move them to the United States and put them into our federal legal system. The concern was, well then they'll have access to lawyers, then they'll have access to writs of habeas corpus. So what? Let them. Isn't that what our system is all about?''
Juan Tanamo close to shutting down Bush.
Another chip cashed in by Bush to get the amnesty bill approved.
