When Will Fred Thompson Announce?
CBN News ^ | June 18, 2007 | David Brody

Posted on 06/18/2007 4:51:27 PM PDT by Politicalmom

It looks like my Fourth of July plans are safe. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell is reporting today that Fred Thompson will make his presidential announcement after July 4. If you're a loyal reader of The Brody File, you know that I was concerned about having to cover the Thompson announcement during the 4th of July weekend. That was the original story. But clearly the Thompson folks have taken my vacation plans into consideration and have moved it back.

Here's part of the story from NBC: "Sources close to former Sen. Fred Thompson say his presidential announcement will likely come "the first half of July." Senior advisers "wave off" the previously reported July 4 date, saying it would be "presumptuous," even "over the top" to "think our news is more important than the nation's birthday."

Advisers say that date "took on a life of its own" in media coverage. More practically, they say the holiday is not ideal because too many people are busy with their own plans and not tuned in to politics.

So when? At this point, they say they are looking at the first half of July. Some advisers indicate it could go later if all the pieces are not in place. They acknowledged the team knows a decision needs to happen this summer saying, "You can only test the waters for so long" -- adding, that "if it takes four or five or ten extra days the time will be well spent."

Advisers say the time, format and venue of the announcement are all still under consideration. Right now, they're working on core message defining Thompson's candidacy. That's being "sharpened." That's why the Web site is so bare.

On Thompson's decision, one adviser says, "I'd be shocked if we weren't making the leap."

Read the rest here. If you have a suggestion for a song that should be played at Thompson's announcement speech, leave your comments here.

Here's my song suggestion.

My guess is that he’ll announce late afternoon Friday the 6th of July. Guess what all the Sunday shows will be talking about?

That is just plain stupid. Fred has NOTHING to gain by being VP. He doesn’t want the “prestige”. He CERTAINLY doesn’t need the money.

If he doesn’t win the nomination, he will go home to his family and continue with his life.

Fred will announce that he seeks the office of the presidency right before he is sworn in January 2009.

Does Fred have any real advisers or are these just talking heads trying to relay messages they hope are from Fred ?

Fred should announce NOW, during the immigration debate and declare his intention to OVERTURN it as soon as he’s elected.

He has advisors.

In fact, he has assembled a whole campaign team, top to bottom, the only thing he hasn't done is officially announce.

In a way, he has made a farce out of the rules, for all effects and purposes, he is in, he has an organization, and he talks like a candidate, he just won't say the very basic words.

My gut tells me he won't run. I suspect his wavering on the matter is a giant publicity stunt, but we'll see.

If the President eventually signs “Shamnesty” into law this summer and then, the President also signs “The North American Union” into law this fall, then how is any conservative politician supposed to ever have any chance at winning at any political level on November 4, 2008 and beyond? Illegals throughout the U.S. will quickly become legal in 24 hours after they do the paperwork and then, many of them will also be allowed to register to vote in the U.S.! Do you honestly believe that these “illegals turned legals” will ever vote in the majority for conservative politicians? Hell No! This country is finished forever, and too many politicians are allowing it to happen! How is either Fred Thompson or any other conservative politician at any political level truly supposed to overcome all of this “mess” and then actually win their political races from now on when these “illegal turned legal U.S. voters” soon become the new majority forever?

Yes and I was aware of that he’s put together a campaign, timed the formation of the “testing the waters” comittee etc. to optimize reporting requirements etc.

Its just my nature to be suspicious when “advisers say” knida like “anonymous sources say”.

Happy Freeping!

I noticed that as well about Brody.

As for songs when he announces, I don’t know the song title—perhaps “Whatta Man”? I just remember the chorus:

Whatta man, whatta man, whatta man
Whatta mighty fine man!

The rest of it, I don’t remember at all and is probably totally inappropriate, so I will go back to the drawing board. ;^)
