RALEIGH, N.C. — A panel of his peers heard closing statements Saturday at the ethics trial of Mike Nifong, who had already promised to leave his job as district attorney over his ill-fated pursuit of the debunked Duke University lacrosse team rape case.

"Mr. Nifong did not act as a minister of justice, but as a minister of injustice," state bar prosecutor Douglas Brocker said Saturday morning in his closing statement.

Brocker told a disciplinary hearing committee that as Nifong investigated allegations that a stripper was raped at a March 2006 party thrown by Duke's lacrosse team, he charged "forward toward condemnation and injustice," weaving a "web of deception that has continued up through this hearing."

Also, what about his assistants? They should have been aware of what was going. They need to be investigated.

FOX's Greta Van Susteren keeps making this same point.

The entire Durham and NC legal establishment should be called onto the carpet. As well as Duke University and the local media.

This is not to criticize the families of the players - they have been through hell and their support was crucial in this case, but I found it odd that the father of one of the players did not want Crystal Magnum prosecuted.

If I were one of the parent, I would scream that she be charged and prosecuted to the fullest. What a horrible message it sends that a person can get away with filing false charges. It also harms the credibility of real victims.

BTW, two football players just were sentenced for rape of a fellow student - they confessed. They got six months and the football season was NOT canceled. One of many such cases. Terrible if Brodhead gets a pass.

Nifong has an adult daughter by his 1st marriage. I believe I read that she lives in Charlotte, NC. His son is from his 2nd marriage to his wife...who serves as ad litem (sp) services.

This is one time where I think the adage “innocent until proven guilty” DOES NOT apply.

It is not an adage, it's a principle. And as such it ALWAYS applies.

I have a relative who is a DA and he has said all along that the assistants had to have known what was going on.

Rev. Jesse Jackson promised Crystal a scholarship. Wonder if she has received it yet.

Nifong should look at federal crime statistics. By a wide margin a rapist is more likely a black man and vitually all rapes of black women are by black men. Statistics alone do not discount a victim's claims but should cause a DA to look closer. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton could help by tackling this sad social problem.

It also should be sent to every newspaper, and every news media outlet, the rainbow coalition, the blackpanthers, al sharpton etc etc etc - I will be sending it to some, in my area, the rest of you do it in your area.

That was certainly MY thought. However, it never happened. The criminalist lost her certification, and I think that was it. However, this story replays throughout the country. Many people are being released even from death row, because DNA testing has proved they didn’t commit the crimes.

I think it’s probably wise for them to take the high road and not go after Magnum, at least right now.

I’m wondering who will play Magnum in the movie? My choice would be Brandy. And Alec Baldwin would make a perfect Nifong.

Any time a DA has that high of a conviction record, you should smell a rat.

Exactly why the system is stacked in favor of the accused. It's better to let someone like OJ get away with it than lock up or execute an innocent person.
