Bush urges Hispanics to push immigration bill

Bush urges Hispanics to push immigration bill Despite its revival in the Senate, legislation's fate is uncertain.

WASHINGTON — President Bush urged Hispanics to lobby hard for a major immigration bill Friday, a day after it was revived in the Senate.

"Each day our nation fails to act, the problem only grows worse," Bush said at the annual National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. "I will continue to work closely with members of both parties to get past our differences and pass a bill I can sign this year."

Bush's comments came after Senate leaders announced a deal Thursday that would allow the legislation to come back to the Senate floor as early as next week.

But the fate of the measure is uncertain.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Friday that he "insisted on a process to prevent endless debate and get the bill through the Senate."

He said he hoped Republicans would not "stall" the legislation.

...the President realizes that our only hope is to win over Hispanic voters.

Who cares about the GOP if America is destroyed?

Regardless, these people are never going to vote republican. Pander all you want, the overwhelming majority of illegal aliens in this country will vote democrat if they become citizens.

He will lead our cause to victory.

Just like in November 2006?

President Bush obviously realizes that the underlying opposition to undocumented Americans is of a racial nature.

George Bush is that you? Are you doing your Bob Dole impression?

When something like only 21% of Americans support this bill, you know it's about something a little more than race.

“President Bush obviously realizes that the underlying opposition to undocumented Americans is of a racial nature.”

Do you honestly believe this? Recent polling data suggests that greater than 70% of Americans are against this bill. Do you really believe that 70% of Americans are racist against Mexicans? If so, you are blinded by some personal prejudice or resentment of your own, and I would honestly urge you to explore this within yourself before making global accusations. If there has been any ‘racism’ or ill-conceived nationalism in this debate it has most vociferously come from those Hispanic nationals who insist that “the southwest is rightfully ours”, who flout our immigration laws, and who are vocal supporters of “Aztlan”. If you really care about the Mexican people then you ought to be spending some of your energy supporting major change within the corrupt political system of Mexico that has failed to support and allow a nation of very bright and industrious people from advancing societally and economically nearly as much as they should. Why can't a country with large oil reserves and tons of other natural resources support an economy that can employ it's own populace?

President Bush urged Hispanics to lobby hard for a major immigration bill Friday, a day after it was revived in the Senate.

Has Bush urged others...say Asians and Middle Easterners...to also lobby hard?

Take a look through the first page or two of B. Chezwick’s posts and count how many times he talks about the federal government using force on American citizens.

If General Patton were alive,he’d be ordering certain people marched to the nearest wall and shot.

Unlike the anti-immigration extremists, the President realizes that our only hope is to win over Hispanic voters.

Do you know any Latinos? The LEGAL ones I call family, the ones who spent 7-10 years becomming naturalized citizens by following something called THE LAW? They are screaming over this! Do you realize how much they worked to do it the right way only to have their efforts laughed at and to be insulted by the President himself?

It is self deceiving to believe that legal Latinos have any reason to be happy about this bill. It's insanity.

Couple questions.

Why do you purposefully try to confuse the issue between illegal and legal immigration? You immediately lose credibility because those are lib tactics (which many in the GOP have been using lately).

How is the U.S. about to become a better place?

You say the underlying issue of the opposition is of a racial nature. Would you say Sammy Sosa and Geraldo Rivera are the same race?

When will this guy learn that we don’t WANT this stupid amnesty bill? I voted for Bush twice, I am beginning to regret it, this President is becoming a huge jagoff. Dad is right, he is like LBJ Jr. I dunno if I’ll vote in 2008, well, I guess I should but unless the GOP comes up with a good candidate, I’ll go third party or write in.

Mr. Bush says every day the bill is unpassed the situation gets worse.

He wants the bill passed to speed up the process and make it get worse faster.

"President Bush obviously realizes that the underlying opposition to undocumented Americans is of a racial nature".

Ever watch those late night fishing lure commercials where the lunkers just can't resist the bait? Gulp! LOL.

His use of "undocumented Americans" should be a tip off.

GW has lost his mind.....now he's urging the hispanics to lobby congress for this POS bill.

I caught FNC last night one of the GOP stragist babes was on, kept saying this was not amnesty, who are they kidding........if it looks like a duck, quack likes a duck, it is a duck.......the classic dictionary definition of amnesty fits this dirty ugly pig of an amnesty bill.

He along with DC are tone deaf on the issue...80% of those polled don't want any form of amnesty.

The need for new schools, new cops, new prisons that will be needed to provide for the 'extended' families of these illegal aliens already here will impact US citizens on property taxes along with state and local taxes will impact us big time.

” undocumented Americans is of a racial nature.”

Your comment is offensive.
And only scatter brained liberals use the term “undocumented Americans”, that term is also offensive, it is Orwellian doublespeak.
It would be like calling a serial murderer a “human sportsman”.
The opposition to illegal invasion is by those who actually thing our Constitution means something.
Those who support continued illegal invasion really don’t care a great deal about our Constituition.
You may also want to remember that President Bush (and all other politicians) is a servant to the voters and not the other way around
The two main groups that I have seen who support illegal invasion are 1) Democrats who see more voters fro their cause 2) Business’s who want cheap labor.

You may want do some historical research and see what happens to nations who become too weak to defend their borders and their idea of nationhood.

He has several more months - give him time.

This guy is a loathsome disgrace.

His legacy will be a curse on the lips of every American.

If this isn’t a race-baiting appeal, I don’t what is.

I despise this guy. He will go down in History as one America’s worst Presidents - the President who gave away America - or tried to.
