Bush urges Hispanics to push immigration bill Despite its revival in the Senate, legislation's fate is uncertain.
WASHINGTON — President Bush urged Hispanics to lobby hard for a major immigration bill Friday, a day after it was revived in the Senate.
"Each day our nation fails to act, the problem only grows worse," Bush said at the annual National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. "I will continue to work closely with members of both parties to get past our differences and pass a bill I can sign this year."
Bush's comments came after Senate leaders announced a deal Thursday that would allow the legislation to come back to the Senate floor as early as next week.
But the fate of the measure is uncertain.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Friday that he "insisted on a process to prevent endless debate and get the bill through the Senate."
He said he hoped Republicans would not "stall" the legislation.

“Undocumented workers” vs. “illegal alien” terminology. Yes, they are illegal aliens, but I also wonder what percentage of the illegals, plus their dependents and anchor babies in the US actually work? The argument is always that they are all here to “do the work that Americans won’t.” Does anyone have statistics that show how many of them really work?
Bush, this American calls you a TRAITOR for taking the United States out of America. Where the HELL does Bush think he is, MEXICO???
Take a hike!!!!!!!
Thanks for the tagline.
This is planet Earth. Perhaps you should go back to planet Xenon where your pathological illogic can be understood.
Funny.
Hey BC so the law that was passed last year and not acted on was just waiting for Teddy Kennedy, la Raza and the Chamber of Commerce to finish their bill? What took them so long I could of written this POS in a weekend. It has more holes than the border. Your boy Bush has had 6 years to defend the border and this bill has a magic switch in it for him to come alive? I have read the whole bill it is one of the worst pieces of legislation I have ever seen at any level of Government.
Bush worked hard to get a congressional Democrat majority at the midterms, and now he wants to see some results for his efforts so he can then devote his full energies to getting Hillary elected.
Since the estimates vary widely on how many are even here, I doubt anyone knows how many work. Which raises the question about the present Senate bill, "How can you pass such open-ended legislation without having any real hard data? We could be legalizing the status of 30 million people plus authorizing their children, spouses, and parents to join them under chain migration. How can this country absorb such numbers? Even without this bill, the Bureau of the Census projects that we will be adding 62 million people in the next 23 years [by 2030] or the equivalent of the current population of the UK.
Hey, he's just helping undocumented Americans do the job Americans aren't doing...
Are you completely insane? Do you know how the Hispanic vote breaks now?
You idiotic Bush-Amnesty supporters somehow think you’re going to take the 20 percent of Hispanics who will vote Republican and overwhelm the 80 percent who will vote Democrat.
Find a padded room, make yourself a cup of pudding and disappear.
“Unlike the anti-immigration extremists, the President realizes that our only hope is to win over Hispanic voters.”
The Hispanic voting block is the fastest growing voting block in America, but what makes you think the majority of them will vote Republican? And even if they did how many true blue American born conservatives would not go to the polls in 08, or just vote for some third party guy out of anger and protest. Remember Ross Perot? Thanks to many of us voting for him because we were angry with the read my lips lie, we got Bill Clinton.
Have you considered,Sir, what the consequences for the country will be, if your pro-amnesty mobs are confronted by equally determined anti-amnesty groups of similar size?
It would not be pretty.
They’re arguing like liberals...because...
THEY’RE LIBERALS!

You're right, Jorge. You're right.
But you're the one who failed to act for 6 1/2 years. Don't blame this on us and and use it as an excuse to scr*w us over!
“President Bush obviously realizes that the underlying opposition to undocumented Americans is of a racial nature.”
What an incredible idiot you are. Nobody is saying “boot all the Hispanics out.” Nobody is saying, “we only want immigrants of a certain race.”
We don’t want freaking people invading our country, illegally, and being rewarded for it by our government.
A tripple post! You were correct all three times. LOL!
