Bush urges Hispanics to push immigration bill

Bush urges Hispanics to push immigration bill Despite its revival in the Senate, legislation's fate is uncertain.

WASHINGTON — President Bush urged Hispanics to lobby hard for a major immigration bill Friday, a day after it was revived in the Senate.

"Each day our nation fails to act, the problem only grows worse," Bush said at the annual National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. "I will continue to work closely with members of both parties to get past our differences and pass a bill I can sign this year."

Bush's comments came after Senate leaders announced a deal Thursday that would allow the legislation to come back to the Senate floor as early as next week.

But the fate of the measure is uncertain.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Friday that he "insisted on a process to prevent endless debate and get the bill through the Senate."

He said he hoped Republicans would not "stall" the legislation.

"This patsy’s a troll."

You got that right. Mr. Chezwick seems to only post on illegal alien threads as their lone supporter. He's doing much better than he used to though, because a couple of weeks ago he would just post his line of crap and go to the next thread. Now he actually hangs around and posts replies to people with even more idiotic comments.

Heads up!

House rejects security fence at the border

The U.S. House of Representatives shot down a proposal Friday by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz, that would have built an 854-mile, double layered security fences along the Mexican border.

Franks noted that only 13 miles of a Mexican border fence approved last year have been built and that the fencing is needed to improve border security.

“With over 4,000 people crossing our southern border illegally every day, our border remains one of our country’s most critical national security vulnerabilities. In order to carry out an act of terrorism, a militant Islamist simply needs a porous border and a dangerous weapon,” said Franks in a statement.

Franks represents Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Kingman.

The fence plan failed by 272 to 149 votes. Most Democrats (including Arizona congressional members Harry Mitchell, Gabrielle Giffords , Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva) voted against the border fence plan.

Most Republicans (including Franks and fellow Arizona Reps. Rick Renzi and John Shadegg) voted for the comprehensive fence plan.

Mesa GOP Congressman Jeff Flake crossed party lines and vote against the border fence bill.

The House did approve an overall homeland and border security appropriations bill Friday. Mitchell said he backed that bill because it allocates federal money to hire more Border Patrol Agents and resources to deport violent illegal immigrant criminals.

“Deporting those illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes is absolutely imperative to keeping our communities safe,” Mitchell said in a statement. Mitchell represents Tempe and Scottsdale.

The state’s four Democratic representatives and Renzi voted for the final bill. Flake, Franks and Shadegg opposed.

The votes could be a precursor to a big political fight over immigration reforms, a guest worker program and how to deal with the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.

Hell, Chertoff uses the term “undocumented workers” when testifying before Congress. The other side uses language to frame the debate. We should challenge them every time they try to seize the lexicon of the issue, no matter where it comes from.

Great stats, kabar.

The one that always interests me is that only 6% of the voters are Hispanic. If Bush and the GOP think they will win the election by trying to appease the small number of Hispanic voters.....the GOP will go by way just like the Whigs

The will of an overwhelming majority of the people is being subverted and our President is calling on Foreign Invaders to support his treasonous cause. What we have here is a Constitutional Crises. Ben Franklin said; “A republic, if you can keep it”

And at least for now until the problem metastasizes further, it is important to remember where these votes are:

"The source of the Democratic bias in Latino voting is clear: For every Latino voter living in a solid Republican county, there are 2.9 Latino voters living in places that lean Democratic or are overwhelmingly Democratic."

Very few Latino immigrants wind up settling in heavily Republican counties – only 13 percent, compared with the 60 percent who are residing in areas where they are in contact with one-sided Democratic populations."

Of course, it does have an impact on statewide elections.

Chertoff uses the term “undocumented workers”

The difference is that Chertoff was being sincere - technically, if illegal aliens are working, then they ARE undocumented workers.

"Undocumented American" is clearly a parody. You'll notice no one has used the term since Dingy slipped up during a moment of weakness and expressed his true sentiments.

Throwing that term around at FR is no different than using a phrase like "let them eat cake" at a socialist website discussing the "plight of the people". It's either someone from the right tweaking the commies, or one of their own playing the pimp.

I suspect the latter - it looks like something I would do. In fact, it should enter the pantheon of other FReeperisms like hugh, series, etc. How's this: "We should ship all undocumented Americans back to their N/C/S American country of origin."

Maybe, but I will fight the good fight nonetheless.

you are way beyond naive, probably relish destroying our Republic. You obviously know nothing about the history of this great Republic. Fight the fight? You probably dream of Lindsey Graham at night. I would be insulting idiots if I called you such. I LIVE everyday with the the hoards of illegals flooding our city. Our country is about to be destroyed and you state such invective tripe. I love my country and our Constitution. You seem to love "rulers" more than ideals.

These tens of millions of Mexicans will do to the USA what they did to Mexico.

We’re becoming a third world dump. Bush is also screwing poor and middle class whites whose families have been here for 50-100 years. The middle class will pay for the welfare expenses.

Bush knows nothing of loyalty; he’s a blue blood money whore.

They ARE NOT undocumented workers. They are ILLEGAL ALIENS. Many of them have documents whether it is a phony SS card, a counterfeit or illegally obtained driver's license or the Mexican government issued 'Matricula Consular'

I am surprised that you are parsing such terms. I guess the Senate bill is, techncially, not amnesty. Give me a break.

So, how long have you been a slimy liberal?

he is a vile race baiter. HE is the true racist. I utterly despise these racists trying to make it out like we are the racists. They are a evil lot who relish destroying our Republic. Anyone who supports our leaders on this issue want to see America destroyed. A bunch of pathetic slime that deserve our contempt.

I'm an American with hispanic parents/grandparents who thinks this bill is not about immigration but about other economic and political issues.

If you want to have the "hispanics" turn out like the American Indians and the African Americans from New Orleans to Detroit, New York to Compton...then by all means support this immigration bill...oh yeah, and increase bilingual education to really keep the hispanics down on the farm.

The Bush administration is limping to the finish line. The legacy should be that we had great economic times due to his tax cuts in spite of fighting a war and great supreme court judges. but he'll be demonized by allowing the dems to attack the military through the courts, the Kennedy education piggy bank for the teachers unions, the immigration fiasco and who knows what else over the next two years.

At least my 4 kids (Irish-Hispanic) are aware of what our country was founded on. Individual responsibility and freedom granted by God and supported by our government.

Next year. They have to; they have no agenda and they want to get the stink of defending B Clinton off them by equating Bush’s “lie” to Bubba’s.

It’s also the only way to make Hillary less pitiful.

Plus, there has to be a political lynch mob to blame somebody for the war.
