Reflecting back on this bill and vote, I wonder what would have happpened it the public didn't have the internet and some nedia coverage to see how bad the bill really was. It just might have squeeked by with the we must pass something mentality.

On the other hand had the open border types not be so greedy to get every last thing with every last loophole but to put forward a reasonable bill it too might have passed. I wouldn't be surprised to see them circle the wagons, fend off this attack and try again with a more reasonable and sensible bill...I think it is too late and the public has made their views clear but I will keep my powder dry and my eyes open, I thought they had learned last year but unlike an elephant they have a poor memory...maybe this good beatdown has changed the "failure to communicate" with a few of them...

McCain never had any hope for it anyway. Why is he even running?

No, I favor the law mandating the building of a fence to secure the border.

WHICH ALREADY PASSED!!!

But of course, nothing has been done to enforce this ALREADY EXISTING LAW because the president, in charge of ENFORCING THE LAWS, doesn’t want a fence. Any fence. Or a border, for that matter.

Alexander voted “Nay” this morning. He voted “Yea” to require the enforcement of existing border security and immigration laws and Congressional approval before amnesty can be granted.

There is nothing wrong with people becoming citizens.

Yes, there is. There most definitely is. If they hate America, or even if they do not LOVE and UNDERSTAND America, it is wrong, it is EVIL for them to become citizens.

We have enough citizens. We don't need any more.

It’s enough to make me wish I was from Alabama.

Fred Thompson and Condoleezza Rice were both born in Alabama.

I was born there. My Mom is still there with most of my siblings. My Dad is buried there, with my ancestors back to my Great Great Great Grandfather.

Now an honorable Alabama Senator has acted in a true Statesmanlike manner.

It looks like Alabama's ship is finally about to come in.

What part of 20 million new democrat voters do you not understand? Passage of this bill will destroy the Republican Party.

you nailed it!!! if anyone doesn't face and accept that FACT, then they are not conservative at all.

The RINO's and other wimpy Republicans need to be expelled from the party. Conservative values such as respecting the rule of law, strong national defense, limited government and a strong push back against the evil of Political Correctness is what should define the GOP. Never again should big social spending people and those who don't cherish our Constitution be allowed to drive the GOP to the left.

very interesting thoughts, well stated. I agree that the actions by many Republicans have not been Conservative at all. We need to wake up and expel them from the GOP.

sorry for the bolds but
THIS PROVES THAT CONSERVATIVES ARE THE MAJORITY IN THIS COUNTRY AND WHEN STIRRED TO ACTION THEIR COLLECTIVE WILL CANNOT BE STOPPED.

I pray Thompson is the nominee because only he will get the base stirred up.

Bush is awesome. His base is pathetic.

If Bush is so awesome, why does he have as his base people who are pathetic?

You would think that an awesome president would have something other than a pathetic base.

So, you are saying that nothing other than pathetic people support Bush. Just how does that make Bush worthy of anyone's support?

The "pathetic people" put him in office. The "pathetic people" can take him out.

I would like to say a word of thanks to:

Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul, Sean Hannity (yeah, I know), Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, the Heritage Foundation, Senator Sessions, and so many more. And to everyone who called and called and called.

But it ain't over. It's just over for now. I think they'll come back with yet another bill this session.

“The bill contained fence provisions, deportation procedures, and other general enforcement provisons.

This means that those celebrating the bill support Amnesty.”

Sen McCain can trot out that tired rube, but intelligent readers of the bill arent buying it.
1. We had a fence bill *last year*. All we need is an administration that will *build the damn thing* without delay.
2. All the above was claimed in the 1986 amnesty bill; it was a lie then. It’s a lie now too. The Coburn Amendment required all enforcement to be in place prior to any amnesty, and what did the supporters of ‘comprehensive immigration bill’ do? They voted it down.
3. In many cases THIS BILL WEAKENED CURRENT LAW wrt DEPORTATION. Consider the Cornyn Amendment, reasonably saying we shouldnt give Z visa to those who defy court orders. WELL ... the refusal of the ‘comprehensive’ side to accept this amendment meant that *IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO DEPORT ANYONE EVER*. All they needed to do was stay in the shadows, wait until they got caught and try the ‘get out of jail free’ card of amnesty application ... WHICH WOULD HAVE TO BE GRANTED IN 24HOURS provisionally.

You see, the lie that ‘this is our only answer’ and ‘this bill has enforcement, it really does’ has been exposed by many grassroots activists and a few brave senators like Sen DeMint and Sen Sessions. Kudos also to Coburn, Cornyn, and Vitter for good amendments that exposed the monstrous nature of this bill.

The phony talking points can be folded up for now and wheeled out when you give it another shot. Doesnt make it true, though, now or ever.

McCain just lost his hope for the Whitehouse.

With luck, he will soon be in the nut house :)

This man has caused great damage to our Republic. Since first going into public office, McCain has awakened each day with one goal in mind -- to be President. Because of his irrational power lust, his abuse of American ideals and the Constitution, his goal will not be reached. It makes me feel joy to know such a vile man will not occupy the Whitehouse.
