Tonight's cloture motion has just gone down to defeat. No where near the 60 yea votes needed to cut off debate.

Not quite true. This bill focused a sleeping public on an issue they have not cared about for about 40 years. From this point on, every R candidate ought to be talking about securing the border. The R's ought to be introducing bills weekly to secure the border. And we need to run in 2008 on securing the border. Every democrat must be forced to take a position that will alienate their base or will do the right thing.
Up 'til now, this has been a wedge issue against the R's. Now, if we focus the issue on secure borders, it's a wedge issue against the D's.
If this bill had passed, the public would have gone back to sleep and the borders would have stayed porous. Now we have a chance to actually do something about it.
Does that include going over a bridge too and this time he doesn’t swim to saftey?
In looking at the roster, Kyle, Graham and Martinez voted against cloture, helping to kill the bill. I wonder how they are going to spin this one?

You know what the most alarming part of all this is?
The early vote had 33 members of the Senate voting for cloture.
The most recent vote had 45 members voting for it.
The arm-twisting and favor-trading must have been huge!
If the pro-amnesty supporters know that they can change 12 votes in that short of time, they’ll keep pushing this bill - albeit in a more behind the scenes manner.

My senator, Jeff Sessions should be the next president...he deserves much of the credit for it's defeat.
Picked up 11-12 from the earlier vote. They’ll probably keep trying at it until they get the result they want, as is typical of the libs.

She most likely voted “no” because of the point-system and the fact that every single illegal living in CA would only be able to bring 10 of his 50 family members into the US instead of all of them.

Boxer voted Nay because she didn’t think the Bill was liberal enough. It didn’t allow enough family members to come into the country.
