Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network, and one of the country's foremost leaders for civil rights, is blasting the justice system for what appears to be favoritism in the early release of Paris Hilton.
"Though I have nothing but empathy for Ms. Hilton whom I have met and appeared with on Saturday Night Live the night I hosted in 2003, this early release gives all of the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released.
I have served several sentences for civil rights and civil disobedience actions and I even fasted which caused health concerns to prison authorities who paid for a doctor to come see me daily rather than release me. This act smacks of the double standards that many of us raise

“Michelle is wearing knee brace”
More like knee pads.
Wow! Who could have seen that... coming?
There is a valid point made here.
Politicians fall over each other to give illegals full amnesty and citizenship rights, Scooter sentenced to a tough jail sentence on a ridiculous interpretation of law, Paris Hilton is out of jail on a joke of a already reduced sentence on a flimsy reason and serving home detention possibly on Malibu beach. Wonder why many think American judiciary is a bit of a joke and a laughing stock among developed nations.
Why should it? Princess Diana, Anna Nichole Smith, and Marilyn Monroe are all dead and buried but their stories go one..and on...and on...
It’s a little tough to get too stirred up about one cartoon criticizing another cartoon.
It has nothing to do with race or money. Los Angeles worships celebrity. They can’t bring themselves to incarcerate their messiahs.
On a mission from God? (grin)
I don’t find myself agreeing with Mr. Sharpton very often, but he’s absolutely correct on this one.
Life is truly strange, and just like myself, I find myself standing WITH Al Sharpton on this issue. Law is the law. The sheriff has lost the MORAL courage to uphold the will of the Courts. How tragic and sad. PARTY ON, Paris with all of your sweet rich friends, and thumb the courts system, that it is does show favoritism. Time to get a new Sheriff. There are other things besides money people can do to bribe the system, at least that’s the way it works in Mexico. Friendship will buy you power, influence, status, the sheriff has fallen in a trap.
Yeah, but he did it. 12 idiots can’t make him innocent.
“You know, I hate to admit this but I agree with the Reverend Al on this one.”
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Exactly. Was Sharpton up in arms when OJ was released ? However I will have to agree with his general premise that this is clearly a case of favoritism.
I don't care who you are, thats FUNNY!
Yowza, Paris can’t hold a candle to Michelle in the looks department (even with a knee brace).
(Not that it is at all relevant, LOL.)
She is in jail and OJ and Lynn stewart are not, nuff said
Coming from a man who incited a riot where a man was killed, propogated a lying whores allegations and never apologized OR served time.
I agree with Al. Any system that allows OJ Simpson and Al Sharpton to run around loose is broken. As for Paris, I couldn’t care less. She’ll be dead in a few years anyway.
