When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.

Unfortunately, we’ve tried to pass term limits. Newt Gingrich led the fight with the Contract with America in 1994. Bob Dole, teh Senate Majority leader at the time, made sure they tanked in the Senate...for which he was granted the Republican nomination in 1996. Newt...well Newt as you may recall...wound up resigning form congress.

The only recourse, I’m afraid, is...

Something to keep in mind. They are MUCH better at using force and violence to achieve their political ends. Remember, they killed 150 million people in the last century.

There is really no need to resort to force. If a sizable portion of the population simply refuses to show up to work, the country shuts down. Actually, the truckers alone could do it. This is amply illustrated by the fact that a large metropolis can be brought to its knees by a garbage strike.
The people of Luebeck, E. Germany brought down the Berlin Wall by sitting in the street and refusing to move. If the military comes in and kills everyone, the government still falls because the all hope of “normalcy” is lost then.
Yes, the people have the power to overthrow the government by simply not showing up for their job. That is devastatingly effective.

I like conservatives chances in recall replacement elections for a number of reasons:

The Democrats won’t get away with or dare to try very much voter fraud because all eyes will be on that state.

The conservatives, in this instance, will be the “ticket for change” which is more of a draw than the status quo of a failed party that just had one of theirs recalled.

I have heard grumblings of a CWII from some very surprising places. People that I would never have expected to make such a comment.

That Sowell is now saying it only emphasizes the other people I’ve heard mention it. It’s been talked about semi-openly at dinner parties for a couple of years. These are people who are tired of their productivity being taken away from them at gunpoint to be given to unproductive people. These are not the Neo-Confederates that so often get bantered about here.

I’ve had the same fear, myself, lately. I’ve been reading some Roman history, as well as some novels about the last century of the Roman republic. There are enough similarities to our time as to make me nervous about our future.

The Roman republic was so rife with corruption and dissention that there were several attempts at coup d’ etat, repeated attempts to overhaul the constitution, and finally, civil war.

The civil wars ended with the victory of Octavian over Antony.

Octavian got it right. He established imperial rule, but let the Romans think they still had a republic. They were so grateful for the end of the civil wars that they willingly participated in the delusion. It wasn’t until the next generation, and the next emperor, Tiberias, that they realized that something fundamental had changed. By then, they didn’t care.

I fear that we may be facing a similar future, and similar decisions.

The only way these issues would be resolved is a strong leader - a dictator.

A strong leader does not have to be a dictator. He could be the reverse of a dictator if he insists on a return to the Constitution. When we obey the Constitution we agree to disagree. That is, the states that want abortion, stem cell research and all the other leftist garbage will be free to do it without interference from the federal government. In other words, we will be a constitutional republic.

I agree. But vastly exceeding its legal authority. Potentially the US government could become the single world authority. I think that would be very bad.

Most of those people were killed after they came to power. All the more reason to stop them while we can.

America was the least taxed "civillization" on earth at the time of the revolution. And let's face it, the Brits had just saved your asses from just being French :-)

That's not the way it worked at Tiananmen Square in China. There are tons of people who regard China as a "normal" country. We have enriched these killers with billions in trade.

Passive resistance doesn't always work against tyrants but your suggestion might be worth a try. I would add that a tax strike might work too.

It's not a matter of "if" but "when".

Our country is infested with political, cultural and economic parasites that have no concern for America's long term health.

Any political system so assaulted can't survive indefinitely.

As King George learned, no good deed goes unpunished. I would trade Jorge Bush II for King George III in a flash; trading a politician who sells out his supporters and party to Mexico and Ted Kennedy in exchange for a gentleman is a bargain.

King George III saved Europe from the madness of the French revolutionaries to his great credit. For some good movies on this war, get the Richard Sharpe series on DVD. My dad bought all the Sharpe DVDs, such as Waterloo and Sharpe’s Siege.

THE PROBLEM:

1. There is no longer an agreed upon Absolute Authority. (Don’t worry, God lives even tho some don’t agree.)

2. Those of us who are content to live as Serfs far outnumber those of us who want to live as FreeMen who assume ownership and responsibility for meeting our own needs.

3. We the People are allowing the levers of power, wealth and authority to be shifted for the interests of the Few, who have their Own interests in mind, and not for the Good of We the People.

THE SOLUTION:

I don’t know. But my 1st thought while reading Mr. Sowell’s accurate description of our cultural decay was to PRAY for Divine Intervention, not for a Military Coup.

FedGov is far from exceeding its legal authority. Look at what happens when it is even hinted that FedGov might invoke its legal powers as Corsi mentioned last week: nothing.
