You could always code the ejector, or even the face surrounding the firing pin itself, it leaves a mark anyway on the brass when it flips it out, having that coded would be easy to do.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think it SHOULD be done at all, but by them saying the technology isn't there is utter nonsense. With todays laser applicators we could do this for pennies apiece to the parts, but keeping track of them afterwords would be a nightmare during production. You couldn't see them with the naked eye, knowing they are the right ones with the right serial number would be a pain.

Bottom line for me is that freedom loving people in the know will teach people how to deface these.

Would they also be willing to accept the stiff penalties these acts will no doubt incur?

Freedom comes at a high cost. Many have given all.

It would be pointless to destroy the etchings or whatever mechanism they use. If one is not going to use a weapon for a crime, why open yourself up to penalties for no reason. The better approach would be a nationwide boycott of any gun manufacturer that goes along or sells any guns in ca, including to LEO.

Civil Disobedience is a strong tool. Ask the left.

“The better approach would be a nationwide boycott of any gun manufacturer that goes along or sells any guns in ca, including to LEO.” Agreed. Ronnie Barrett should be a national hero already.

But read the article. It says that they will be LASER etched.

Not at all, it is so small you couldn't see them without a magnifying glass, these are micro etchings, little larger than the natural swirls the machine leaves when they bore the receiver out.

Given your premise, what prevents dirt from accumulating in these "micro etchings" obscuring the number?

As I stated, the only way for this to work would be to use deeper etchings that will affect the reliability of the weapon.

Oh, regardless, you would have to outlaw polishing your chamber as well.

Laser etched? Ok, then that is just plain stupid.

See, that's why my tagline hasn't changed in so long......
