When it comes to dealing with the illegal immigration issue, President Bush and his administration are their own worst enemies. On other issues, the president is sugar and spice when it comes to Democrat opponents. But when it comes to rule-of-law conservative opposition to his amnesty proposal, the preferred method of operation is akin to thwacking the hornets nest with a stick.
You may recall that when the Minutemen first brought this issue to major public attention a few years ago with their volunteer border patrols, President Bush called them vigilantes. And its been pretty much all downhill from there, leading to his big May 29 speech on the current immigration reform proposal at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Georgia.
The president began his remarks by introducing two Hispanic members of his administration, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and former Cabinet member Mel Martinez, now a U.S. Senator from Florida. Both were born in Cuba. I want to mention those two men because, to me, they represent what the immigration debate is all about, the president said.
So right out of the chute the president misrepresents the issue. I dont believe Gutierrez and Martinez are illegal immigrants. They and/or their families immigrated here legally. And it appears both came here to escape the oppression of the Castro regime, not to simply get a higher-paying job. So Gutierrez and Martinez are NOT what this immigration debate is about. The issue is over those who break the law to get here.

“Poor Tony Snow.
He must really be second guessing why he took the job.”
I like Tony, too. But he was dead wrong on this issue when he had his talk show. I’m sure his voiced opinions on illegal immigration were part of the reason he was selected for that slot.
I doubt that he’s having any stress at all about supporting Bush on this. Show was on the same page from day one.
I agree.
Can’t take the truth.Too bad! it is true. race card, maybe but then again the truth does hurt now doesn’t it?
Wrongo.I lived near TMI . the cows were infected and had to be killed . A lot of people developed cancer. the kind of long term cancer takes time to develop but is there. I saw the entire state panic and changes made to certain nuclear plants because of TMI. Nuclear accicents, hello back in 1963 the sub thresser went down and the country paniced because of the nuclear reactor on board.Coal energy , tell that to the enviro s who hate coal tec. My own father died from a coal related lung disease. So I can speak about coal. You probably never heard of Brililyosis ( hard word to spell) that killed half my town in the early days of mining for coal.

FredHunter nails it, for some reason you are playing the race card. You claim Coulter and Sheehan look down on you because they only like whites and that I do not like eastern europeans - Aren’t eastern europeans like Poles and Czechs white? Where have I said that I dislike eastern Europeans? Have you taken your meds today?
You have failed to logically respond to the arguments presented and instead attacked the columnists discussed (like Coulter) and the posters who responded to you.
I repeat, if you feel immigrants should be allowed to enter to create a better life for themselves with the result that they destroy the quality of life for Americans, post your name and address. Hundreds of illegals would have a better life (but not you) by moving en masse into your house and getting a free place to stay. A better life for illegals is what you want, right? Then post your name and address - time for you to practice what you preach.

Why do you hate the United States of America?
It’s called “marketing”, lady.
The thresher reactor never melted down, so how is panicing an actual nuclear incident rather than a media scare. That is what the entire global warming scare is about what could happen if things go wrong.
On the side of coal, are you saying that since your father (May he rest in peace) died of black lung you don’t support switching coal plants to nuclear? I’m sorry they died but the fact is that it is old tech yet 50% of america is powered by coal power plants. Strategically speaking nuclear power production is safer, has more gross output, cheaper and stable. Not to mention you no longer need 100,000 tons of coal being flung around on our railways when they can be hauling more freight.
The french have over 80% of their power production coming from nuclear power plants, they have been lucky and have the same standards we have yet their hasn’t been an incident. Regardless western nuclear power plants if there is an accident the safety protocols minimize the hazard to a greater degree than the nightmarish outcome of Cherynobol.
A platitude written by a Frenchman does not constitute US policy.
“Hello, that does not say a bunch of Anne Coulter ,pat Buchanan , kkk country club types who have decided to make it the country club for people in white hoods only”
“KKK country club types”? More heated rhetoric from the left. Why do you desire to import 100 million new Democrats and make mockery of the rule of law?
Your posts are barely coherent. Perhaps you should work on that today.
“Like I said today is Sunday soak the hood in clorox , it gets whiter with each bleaching. matter of fact I have an idea, since Eastern Europeans like my self are so disliked and unwelcome in your country club society.”
I’m part Czech myself and quite a bit of Irish. Some of my ancestors came over on the land bridge with Siberia. None were particularly “country club” types.
“Try your hero Ron Regan. yes fellow Reganites your hero made this mess.”
Reagan signed an amnesty with the understanding that there would be strict enforcement after it.
“Bush is yoo good a president to let it go past him.”
Bush is intending to repeat past mistakes, only it’ll be bigger this time.
“Conservative yea right! How you all act RACE CARD! We are good everybody who does not pure white blood in them is not, right Coulter fan!”
Says the despicable liberal.
Oh now the French are no good also. Gee I wonder if Washington thought that about the French fleet when they stoped General Cornwallis from leaving Yorktown before he surrendered to Washington. I think the French for all theior faults have a place in American history also. But then again only King George and his rule would do for you.
