Thompson In
If you believe this report and we do former Sen. Fred Thompson will indeed throw his hat in the ring for president of the United States. As many readers of the GOPNation.com know, we endorsed Thompson, believing he is the best candidate at the right time to maintain the White House for the GOP. An Thompson entry would shake up the Republican primary process almost immediately and in our opinion, cause one or two GOP candidates to withdrawel from the race before the end of summer. Stay tuned.
Gingrich Getting Closer
Meanwhile, it looks like former GOP Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is getting ever closer to his own race for the presidency. In what can only be described as the must-read story of this early week, the New Yorkers Jeffrey Goldberg paints a GOP in turmoil with its leaders (including Gingrich) at each others throats over the partys losses in 2006 and dwindling chances in 2008. Expect lots of Rove bashing in this piece.
Zoellick at World Bank
President Bush is expected to name deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick to head the World Bank. Zoellick would replace the disgraced Paul Wolfowitz who resigned last week. Hmm, another Bush crony in another plum position. Yeah, that will work out.
Did you hear?
The mainstream press didnt tell you but we will: gas prices have started to fall, thanks in part to higher inventories and of course, the passage of Memorial Day. Todays average stands at 3.197/gallon down 3 cents from the high set on May 24. Dont worry, any Fourth of July increase will surely be reported as a price surge by the press, no matter how much the prices fall between now and then.
Drudge Headline of the Day
Gotta love this: I Saw The Climate Change, describing Nancy Pelosis reaction to her recent trip to Greenland. Classic liberalism.

The only "digging" I have done is into transcripts of Newt Gingrich's own public statements. I agree with you that sleazy innuendo is no reason to oppose Gingrich. They do factor into his electability, however. But that is a question for another day.
I am much more interested in his statements.
To quote from your post:
Gingrich is a pol. One of his many interests is health care. Hitlery is the purported health care "expert" among the Rats. Therefore Gingrich made an accommodation to her, in order to advance his own agenda.
I agree with you. However, what you see as a strength, I see as a fatal flaw.
Gingrich made an "accomodation" with Kerry in order to advance the Human-Caused Global Warming debate from the arcane areas of science into the meat-and-potatoes of public policy. Unfortunately, in making this accomodation, he completely gave away the game. Inhofe is fighting this battle on the correct field. Once you give in on the supposed "science", the battle is lost.
This is a pattern with Newt Gingrich. He always counts on his brilliance (and he is brilliant, I will agree) to pull himself out of the fire. But he goes too far and gives away too much.
BTW, if you would like to apologize for accusing me of dumpster diving with Terry Lenzner and IGI, I would not hold it against you.
First of all, I would vote for Newt in the general election if he, by some miracle of cosmic proportions, he won the Republican nod. I would vote for him over a Giuliani any day.
I do resent your caustic accusations of my intent or conservative affiliation. I totally dismiss your smarmy superior attitude regarding what you see as me digging myself deeper into some sort of hole. just saying it doesn't make it so. Newt is a burn victim. he has been burned by the left it is true, but in some cases he lit the matches himself.
Yes he was the great conservative leader of the nineties. Now he is kissing up to both sides of the fence in order to make people like him again. It is a failed strategy.
Angkor... Come out and plaaaay-yaaaa!
Don’t know what that pic and your comment refer to.
I’m watching the debate in the entirety right now. Not one of the 2 minute soundbite clips posted aroud the Internet, but the whole thing start to finish.
So far, Kerry (who spoke first) went for 20 minutes with dire predictions based on debatable metrics.
Now 5 minutes into Newt’s talk, and all he’s discussed so far is the utter failure of “regulatory and litigation solutions” to enviromental issues.
Not a word in support of human-caused global warming yet. Not even a hint of it.
Yes, well I conflated your comments with those who assess Newt on the basis of his personal and private marital issues, and who propagate the sleazy fictions of the left.
On review I see that you made no such comments and I apologize for asserting that you did. My mistake.
Get a grip.
Civility is not "kissing up."
I assert that Newt's personal and private life is none of your business, and furthermore that his current emphasis on civil, rational debate and perhaps even on "accomodating" Rat views on an issue (e.g. Hitlery and health care) is not whimpy, or "kissing up" or a "tryst" or anything other than what it appears to be.
Having said that, do you have any actual points of difference with his political views? Let's see how much of a conservative you are, when called to address conservative policies and principles, rather than personal attributes.
Ball's in your court.
The picture is a reference to a really bad movie The Warriors from the '70s. I guess I'm dating myself (which is good, because nobody else will!)
And thanks for acknowledging that I will not swim in the same scummy pond as Terry Lenzner.
but your assertations mean diddly squat....and thats my 'ball is in my court' moment...and it is has wasted more time than you're worth replying to...ciao, and respond if you will...this is my last post
I think the above is very true. Even were it not, his negatives are way to high, and he is just NOT likeable enough to win the presidency.
