Standing ramrod straight in dress blues and crisp khakis, the seven color guard members lifted their rifles for one of the most solemn moments of any Memorial Day parade, the 21-gun salute. Hundreds who had gathered to witness the tribute watched in silence.
Just then, the eggs came flying. One glanced off a tree branch, and landed far away from the marchers in yesterday's Memorial Day Parade in Rockland, said Ryan Durfee , a former Marine who was marching in the color guard. Another crashed 8 feet in front of the color guard...
After the throwing , Durfee said he saw two teens run from their backyard into their house, and two police officers chase after them. Rockland police said last night that they arrested two 13-year-olds and charged them with disorderly conduct and assault with a dangerous weapon, a felony.
Rockland Police Chief John Llewellyn told FOX-25 TV that the culprits were a "couple of 13-year-olds that just wanted to cause some trouble and they picked the wrong time and the wrong group of people to do it to."
Durfee said the color guard completed its 21-gun salute despite the disturbance. But last night at the Rockland Veterans of Foreign Wars center , emotions were still raw, said Steven MacDonald , the post commander.
"It's very discouraging, especially on a day like today," MacDonald said. "We don't need somebody throwing eggs at us. That's crazy. It's unacceptable." MacDonald said several veterans are planning plan to show up at Hingham District Court today to demonstrate their disgust as the two teens are arraigned in the juvenile session.

Yup. 3-shot volley by 7 gunners equals 21-gun salute to those who have fallen in battle.

I hate going anywhere east in New England - I’m in NY and that is bad enough!
The majority of the libs are beyond comprehension - I’ve tried to have discussions / arguments with many new englanders but they never get it. They are socialists through and through but cannot logically back up their stance.
Every time I can state “I think X is a poor idea, because of Y” yet most of the responses I get are “yea well, Z is a poor idea and your momma was a Nazi!”
Libtards - no more appropriate term... since I’ve heard it, I find applications daily :)
It’s the “Propoganda Effect”...
These kids are faced with leftist and enemy propoganda in the classroom, and EVERYWHERE they look, from the media, to the internet. Eventually, it takes hold if there is not an equal amount of counter-propoganda to offset it.
Lets take a look a some leftist propoganda postings, from a FINANCIAL message board, in just the last few minutes, shall we??
These are just the HEADLINES, not the body of the posts!

These are just a FEW examples, and not even the worst of the bunch, as they would likely get me suspended here, but they have the effect of “Desensitizing” those youths to reality.
Massachusetts patriotism ping!
I was at the grocery checkout last week when a group of teen boys were buying dozens of boxes eggs which were on a buy one/get one free with no limit.
I loudly informed the checkout clerk that the store had a legal right to refuse to sell and all I got was a shrug of shoulders, not my problem lady.
That is the definition of a 3 shot volley. Which is why reporters so often call it a 21 gun salute. A 21 gun salute is 21 seperate "shots."
Now I don't know if the article above really was a 21 gun salute or a 3 shot volley, I was just noting the common mistake that reporters seem to make so often.
Agreed. In a reasonable world, they'd get their butts whipped by their parents and be drug by their parents in front of those Marines to apologize in addition to being charged with disorderly conduct.
A sincere apology by these teens to the veterans who show up at the courthouse today would be a good first step by these kids in making amends.
Since thirteen year-olds sometimes do incredibly stupid things, this may not have been an intentional affront to our armed forces, but it sure seems that way, and obviously doesn't suggest good things about their upbringing either.
Should have told the manager. The checkout people have no authority. I have developed a pleasant relationship with the managers of the grocery stores I shop in and if they know you are a regular customer, they listen to what you say.
I know it sounds a little on the soft side but at face value, these were just a couple of thoughtless kids doing the stupid things that some kids do.
I know that some here will scream for blood and site a deliberate disregard and disrespect of the men and women who sacrificed for their country, but to me it just doesn’t cut that deep. Two dumb kids who did a dumb thing, nothing more, nothing less IMO.
A 3 shot volley by seven soldiers in dress IS a twenty-one gun salute.
That's what I've found when researching this for my Legion Post.
Little fools.
He didn’t need manager approval, he just needed some balls.
You are right though, I should have told him to call the supervisor when he shrugged me off.
are the hippies coming back? Idiots...
Never run with a hard-boiled egg in your hand. You could put your eye out.
Well, I just looked it up and it appears I was wrong.
44 years old and still a long way from knowing it all.
In keeping with the subject of this thread, I guess you could say, ‘I have egg on my face’.
