San Francisco values or Wall Street values?
At the center of the internal Democratic debate over trade is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose leadership role impels her to bend to the right of her progressive, anti-establishment district constituents.
On Iraq, considerable pressure from peace activists was required to make Pelosi unite Democrats around an anti-Bush, anti-war position. She demonstrated extraordinary skill in keeping her caucus focused, even though the original Democratic proposal fell short of complete U.S. troop withdrawal. Instead, it proposed the gradual pullout of combat troops only, leaving tens of thousands of American soldiers training Iraqis in a dirty sectarian war.
At least the Democratic plan served as a major rebuke of Bush's policies, and its possible revival may serve the Democrats well in 2008. But the critical "neo-liberal" economic dimension of Iraq policy has been ignored by Pelosi and the Democrats...
...A revived New Deal would have elected governments, rather than unelected corporations and banks, set the rules for fairness in the global market. The goals would be controls on financial speculation, an enforceable living wage, consumer access to affordable medicines, and the expansion of the Kyoto agreement into a full assault on global warming's devastating impact on poorer countries...

With her looks and personality, choices are the only thing she gets that is hard.

These policies include opening the Iraq economy to lucrative oil refining and private banking opportunities by American and British companies shut out of Iraq for three decades. What a horrible thought. It would be much better to put those resources in the hands of Obama bin Laden. Whoops. I mean Osama. (It's so easy to make that mistake!)
Well, this certainly explains why the Muslims in the middle east have never been able to make a democracy work.
They don’t do PORK.
agree, more psyco-drivel from SFCron.
These policies include opening the Iraq economy to lucrative oil refining and private banking opportunities by American and British companies shut out of Iraq for three decades. Hundreds of Iraqi-owned enterprises have been shut down as Iraqis are being forced into the privatized world of the World Trade Organization.
What Iraqi enterprises is he referring to? Those run by Saddam's goons?

What fantasy land are these people living in?
Good thing I learned to swallow my coffee before reading posts, else yours would have drowned my keyboard.
Do Nothing Nancy always looks surprised.

Bush's policies? The overthrow of the Hussein regime and the subsequent formation of a democratic government in Iraq has been not only US policy, but US law, since 1998 when Clinton signed into law the IRAQ LIBERATION ACT of 1998.
Liberals are America's sheep!
Whatever else would one expect from Mr. Jane Fonda.
Exactly and many of them are Amercia's traitors.
The rare ROTFLMAO is thereby generated.
The last I heard, 84000 businesses had been licensed in Iraq, but lack of a modern banking system was a huge pain. Can you believe a New Deal for the world? Only a hippy who’s been smoking dope for 30 years would be advocating that.
When I lived in Los Angeles, I picked up the local hippy rag, the LA Weekly, whose founders got very rich on ads for phone sex, fancy restaurants and expensive boutiques. I liked it because it was free, and because I thought they genuinely cared about local issues in a place where the population at large is mainly indifferent.
What always amazes me is that publications like the LA Weekly will probe deeply into the nastiness of how the Los Angeles City Council really runs, and then suggest you vote for people who want to expand the Council’s ability to tax and spend.
Surely it should have been obvious that giving money to those folks is like giving a loaded gun to an infant, but somehow their touching faith in what would happen if, say, Antonio Villagrosa became Mayor, continued.
Well, Antonio is now Mayor. He’s certainly vibrant and that’s a nice change. Anyone know how he’s done? I’ve left LA and am now out of touch.
