Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View." ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.
According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.
On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.
On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.
A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.
"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."
I hope you’re right about Rosie reading these posts because I have something I want to say to her...
I remember when Rosie first broke onto the entertainment scene. I loved her fresh comedic delivery, in the beginning. And I also remember her saying she thought entertainers were basically stuck up, spoiled and snotty, demanding all manner of goodies from a fawning public. Back then she swore she’d never be that kind of person.
So Rosie, LOOK IN THE MIRROR. YOU HAVE BECOME A SNOTTY, SPOILED, STUCK UP B*TCH. IN SPADES! Deal with it. GET HELP.
Good riddance to bad rubbish! In some ways I’ll miss tuning into The View and seeing what ridiculous thing she will spew out next. She was the true spokesman for the left, saying what the enemy was thinking but too scared to say. She made the left look nutty to moderates in America which was a plus. Although, I’m hoping this is the end of her career. I hope she’s sunk herself so far, that she’ll never be able to get back up and continue to spew her moonbat rethoric on the airways.
The bottom line is this, Elizabeth has always been a bit of a pushover for Rosie. She always let Rosie talk right over her. Finally, when Rosie implied the troops were terrorists, Elizabeth had enough. “Big bad” Rosie started getting attacked more than ever by Repubs and conservatives, and Rosie wanted Elizabeth to defend her. Thankfully, Elizabeth knew Rosie meant what she said when she implied the troops were terrorists. She offered Rosie an opportunity to defend herself, but Rosie couldn’t defend herself. When Elizabeth didn’t do it, she had a fit. Little Elizabeth wasn’t pushed over, and Rosie had been exposed for the extreme, America hating, leftist moonbat she is.
She should try using her brain before speaking.
I was glad to finally get to see what everyone was talking about. Thanks for providing the link.
Looks to me like Ms Hasselbeck won by TKO. Well done!
I saw her boorish assault on that lady how can people enjoy that show with a loudmouth SLOB ruining it? its supposed to be girltalk not air freaking amerika.
The FLAA (Fat Lesbian Association of America) will be having a bad day
This is the very same Rosie O'Donnell who said that christians and conservatives were a far greater threat to this country than Al-Queida. In fact had she had her way, I and probably about 200 million or so people who are christians would be sitting in a jail cell wearing an orange jumpsuit instead of sitting in front of the computer typing this post.
This woman has serious and major mental health issues. I know some people who have relatives with mental health problems. Some think it's easy to deal with these things but that's not always the case.
There's a radio talk host whose mother-in-law has had mental health issues. She and her husband had been married for over 50 years. It fianlly got to the point whre the radio talk host and his wife finally said enough and moved the father-in-law out of that house into an appartment.
Rosie O'Donnell has brought a tremendous amount of embarrasment to ABC and it's over 300 or so affiliate TV stations with her reckless and irresponsible statments. What's even more alarming is some people believe and even cheer on what she says as gospel. There were even a couple of letters to the editor in our local newspaper saying things to that effect.
People of this kind need to be undermined and put out of business before they end up doing enormous harm to this country. News and media organizations like ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and the mainstream media are all bad news for this country.
And, I have to add that Barabra Walters choosing to take up for Rosie does nothing but compound this enbarrasment. Walters should know better but apparently she doesn't.
Regards......
I saw the replay the other day too. Sometimes my wife watches that show when doing housework and I happen to be in the house. Rosie O'donut is a miserable excuse for a human being. She is always mad.
The condescension from that poster is unbelievable! Rosie is a bully and a coward. She was finally told off. Now, we have to get rid of Joyless Blowhard.
Wah-Wah! Big Fat Hateful Biotch couldn’t face the music the next day. How cowardly!
Rosie does make for great news and last night on H & Co, Mancow, Curtis Sliwa and Sean were going after Ellis Henican and Colmes for defending her garbage. Mancow said it best: the other side absolutely wants us to lose in Iraq and that side includes Rosie, who is getting her talking points from Moveon. I have a feeling the lovefest for Rudy is going to come to an end soon. Rudy has self destructed over abortion and NYC has been a sanctuary city for illegals.
And yet O’Donnell would still vote for him because she gets her talking points and orders from George Soros and that crew. There is a real disconnect. And Islamofascists hate and kill big fat lesbians. Yet she defends them!
“Is Rosie cowardly at all?”
Is Rosie COWardly at all? Yes.
What a vile human being.
Obviously hates herself as well. Ignorant as the day is long.
Hasselbeck is simply a punching bag on that show , she should wake up and get a less embarrassing job>
Hasselbeck isn’t so sharp either. i feel sorry for her , meanwhile the audience seems to be made up of total trash liberals who actually cheer Rosie that fat slob.
Hasselbeck is nothing but a sap for even being on that show. She is there to be beat on by the leftist witches and and laughed at by the audience. She seems nice, she needs to get a real job and stop being a foil for the loonie left on that show.
Another aspect of this John Edwards quote irks (but doesn't surprise) me; had a Republican Presidential candidate expressed such feelings about gays it would be all over the establishment media: frontpage, above-the-fold headlines like Fred Thompson Admits he's Homophobic, endless, pundit panel-discussions asking, Is gay-bashing Romney toast?
I thank the stars for Fox News everyday. Now that Rosie's over, maybe Hannity and O'Reilly will shine some light on this.
