WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration and key congressional Democrats and Republicans stepped up their efforts to sell a broad immigration compromise Thursday as lawmakers braced for a public backlash at home.
"Many Americans are rightly skeptical about immigration reform," President Bush said in a Rose Garden news conference. "This bill provides the best chance to reform our immigration system and help us make certain we know who's in our country and where they are."

I was young and stupid and voted for Carter. Trying to think of an excuse for having voted for this major disappointment.
Only if we get rid of their “retirement”. Put them in our social security program, THEN term limits. I don’t want to pay out for dozens of freeloaders instead of just one.

So if illegal aliens were required to pay so much as a $1 fine, this would prevent it from being labeled as an amnesty? There are apparently many snake oil salesmen in Washington, D.C.

Check this web site out to be both frightened and pissed at the same time at our Congress, who want to grant amnesty for these illegals because their own country cant support them. If this legislation is enacted, these numbers will rise to bankrupt America.

As for the Income Tax, America at the time was a very different place than it is now with a lot of wealth accumlating in the hands of robber barons. Roosevelt was hardly a Bolshevik.
