Its going bad because we are not fighting to win

One hundred body bags a month are a heckuva reason as to why some people (myself included) think this war is going badly. When I start hearing about how our troops are killing Iraqis (without a war crimes trial following it) then I think the war is going better. But I guess all I hear are how Shia are killing Sunni, and vice-versa. It makes me wonder why we just don't get out of their way.

So I guess they had to oversample the rats pretty good to get this result.

What matters is the QUALITY of thinking —

and not merely the QUANTITY of non-thinking responses they can elicit.

Polls are so last century mass-marketing manipulation.

No wonder mass media is collapsing like a house of cards.

I know — it’s so much fun to watch them pulling each other under, as they go down.

What happened to that longterm contract they were going to sign Cindy Sheehan to host their flagship news program?

.

"Unfortunately, most of those who could not find Iraq on a map are likely those who support the war."

Unfortunately, your statement is just plain dumb.

76% Say War's Going Badly

Put another way, only 24% of the people are informed enough and intelligent enough to know what's really going on and how we're really doing in Iraq,..

"Are you suggesting the war’s going well? What’s the metric?"

Well, one metric is to ask if the insurgency has won any of its agendas or battles. The answer to that would be no. The insurgency has not thwarted the political process in Iraq, has not kept Iraqis from voting, has not kept Iraqis from joining the Iraqi armed forces, and has not won a single military battle.

On the other hand, the coalition and the Iraqi government continue to gain ground on the political front and in reconstruction.

If it were going well, we wouldn’t have to call it “WAR”.

I never trust such polls. After telling people for months on end how badly the war is doing the news then decides to ask them how they think the war is doing. Surprise those polled declare the war is doing badly. Hear a lie often enough if takes on the aura of truth.

By your standard, WWII went very badly for us and for our allies and we should have pulled out and allowed Hitler and Mussolini and the Japanese to take over the world.

If I was to base my answer to this poll solely on what CBSNBCABCCNNMSNBC had to report; I too would think the war was going badly. However, I have a son in Iraq and a husband who has been to Iraq and Afghanistan, and I’m surrounded by active duty soldiers who tell me othewise on a daily basis. So, they can take their poll and shove it up thier...oh, never mind.

The poll was a sample of the CBS newsroom, apparently.

No matter how much everyone says they hate Polls, don’t trust ‘em, they don’t mean a thing, they lie, they’re fixed...

If you put the word “Poll” in the title of a thread here at FR, you’ll have nearly twice as many views as any other thread on the page.

I think we love to hate polls — actively. (Unless they support our position, of course.)

I certainly don’t trust Internet polls. We all know how easy they are to Freep. Written polls are better. Phone polls are good. Phone-in polls I'm not so sure of. Live polls are geography-bound.

100% of Freepers would never speak to CBS except to spit on them.

How many buildings and all their occupants in the US did we lose today to the terrorists?

The war is not going badly just because their own ratings are plummeting; they have to look at the bigger picture of life for everybody — and not just their own career trajectories.
