There are SO many outrageous comments in this article, I don't know where to begin. In the first paragraph, a Cabinet secretary--the Secretary of Homeland Security, no less--says we have laws that we have no intention of enforcing. He acknowledges the fundamental unfairness of allowing illegal immigrants to stay, but we will "bow to reality." He dismisses the arguments of Republican conservatives and then he tells us we either let ILLEGAL aliens stay or we're hypocrites. YIKES!!!

The Secretary of Homeland Security needs to be run out of the country on a rail!

"The reality is, we don't have enough people," said Gutierrez, adding that many of the USA's economic competitors, such as France, Germany, Japan and China, will be facing a similar demographic shift. "The big challenge of the 21st century is: Who gets the people? Who gets the immigrants?" he said. "We don't appreciate today that these people are coming in for free."

I would not call 2.5 TRILLION in expected cost "free." Gutierrez has lost every marble in the bag...

“You’re not going to replace 12 million people who are doing the work they’re currently doing,” Chertoff said. “If they don’t leave, then you are going to give them silent amnesty. You’re either going to let them stay or you’re going to be hypocritical.”

That’s ignorant. Where does he factor in how many are getting entitlements? They use the ‘anchor baby’ 14th amendment to hold us hostage in our own country.

Deport. Now.

Could someone explain how this makes us hypocrites?

Chertoff needs to go along with every so-called American who agrees with him.

Many American citizens have lost faith in and distrust those in charge in both parties.

“a fundamental unfairness” in a bill allowing illegal immigrants to stay. But trying to force them to leave would be impossible, Chertoff said, “We are bowing to reality.”

Seal the Borders, Fine/Imprison Employers, Take away all the welfare entitlements....and these people will self-deport.

The relatively small number of those that remain we can efficiently and officially deport.

He's a "moderate" (which translated means, "unprincipled on basic social issues"). So many Republicans keep voting for "moderate" candidates like Bush I and Bush II, and then act outraged at the kind of folks these politicians appoint (or try to appoint) to the bench and adminstrative positions.

It's laughable and sad at the same time.

From the USA Article it looks like the Administration has finally found an issue to utilize their long lost public voice and is mounting a huge PR effort to convince us that they have our best interest in mind...
An example is by RNC Chief Mouthpiece Gutierrez: “The reality is, we don’t have enough people,” said Gutierrez, “We don’t appreciate today that these PEOPLE ARE COMINH IN FOR FREE”.
Spoken like a true Government Lackey, FREE? or on the Taxpayers tab.....

Tear jerker time

Chertoff, whose department has staged a number of recent raids that have resulted in mass roundups of illegal workers and sharp protests from religious groups, warned there will be more if the workers don't get a chance to become legal. "We're going to enforce the law," he said. "People all around the country will be seeing teary-eyed children whose parents are going to be deported."

You’re on to something. But, how do we stop entitlements when anchor babies are seen as citizens? Our laws are being used against us!

A 2,000 mile state-of-the-art border fence has been estimated to cost between four and eight billion dollars.
But Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has said a wall running the length of a border would cost too much.

Yet they (both parties) seem to have no problem with 10 billion of pork still in the War funding bill.

Or he could join butt-buddy Ken Mehlman with Rudy's campaign. I hear they are in need of some serious help.
