There is a reason why whites in the northeast (and possibly other parts of the country), avoid towns with large or growing black populations. Aside from "group affinity" there is the knowledge that we will face some sort of hostility. No thanks.
Well,my experiences in the South showed me that both groups contain more than their share of troublemakers and agitators.
I recall some nasty incidents on busses in New Orleans where groups of black kids attacked any whites venturing toward the back of the bus.
Then again,my white “brethren”acted rather nastily also back in 1979 in nearby Metarie when they mobbed the dozen or so of us who were picketing a KKK rally and threw garbage at us while calling us”n***** lovers”among the more printable quotes.
California, too. Aside from white liberals who like visit black neighborhoods to eat authentic "Southern" cuisine and prove how committed to diversity they are. Then when they get targeted and mugged because of their race, they blame it on Bush's drastic cuts in social programs. ;)
I have Asian friends who are literally scared to go beyond the San Francisco city limits because they think they are going to be beaten up by white rednecks (those biker bars in Danville and Woodside are notorious.) And they don't want to live near majority black neighborhoods, either.
Voluntary racial segregation is alive and well in America.
Given the large black population down here in Dixie, we don't usually have that luxury though rural Deep south black culture is usually much more hospitable...this town in Louisiana being an exception I'm sad to say
