Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran (ABC News tips off Iran about covert CIA operations)

The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert "black" operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject, say President Bush has signed a "nonlethal presidential finding" that puts into motion a CIA plan that reportedly includes a coordinated campaign of propaganda, disinformation and manipulation of Iran's currency and international financial transactions.

"I can't confirm or deny whether such a program exists or whether the president signed it, but it would be consistent with an overall American approach trying to find ways to put pressure on the regime," said Bruce Riedel, a recently retired CIA senior official who dealt with Iran and other countries in the region.

Interestingly, Eisenhower fully briefed the war correspondents before the D-Day invasion and then he sequestered the lot of them to keep them from reporting it ahead of time.

The days of a responsible press are long gone; ABC’s excuse for actually printing this is that the White House would not comment on it, so they figured it was OK. ABC has committed treason by printing and airing something identified to them as “covert”; the leaker should be hung, and ABC should be shunned. They are openly supporting the enemy and doing it to get troops killed so they can report it and get their ratings higher. That is the only reason they reported this story — ratings, regardless of the impacts of releasing this information.

If the President of ABC News had any guts or patriotism, he would report on the next broadcast the names of the individuals who provided them this information.

I’m sick and tired of “unnamed” sources...this could be water cooler gossip for all we know. ABC owes the country an apology for openly giving aide and comfort to the enemy and they should relinquish their privilege to the public airwaves, or it should be taken away from them.

ABC has become AlJazerra Broadcast Corporation. To hell with the US and our troops, they are now openly supporting OBL and the terrorists.

Whoever coined the phrase “enemedia” had it exactly right.

Question: Is there anything touching on national security that major American news outlets would not publish, even if they knew it was classified and classified for good reason? Right now, it appears that the honest answer would have to be "no".
