Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran (ABC News tips off Iran about covert CIA operations)
ABC News ^ | May 22, 2007 | Brian Ross and Richard Esposito

The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert "black" operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject, say President Bush has signed a "nonlethal presidential finding" that puts into motion a CIA plan that reportedly includes a coordinated campaign of propaganda, disinformation and manipulation of Iran's currency and international financial transactions.

"I can't confirm or deny whether such a program exists or whether the president signed it, but it would be consistent with an overall American approach trying to find ways to put pressure on the regime," said Bruce Riedel, a recently retired CIA senior official who dealt with Iran and other countries in the region.

Although I am glad that there are clandestine CIA operations going on in Iran to destabilize the regime, I would rather not know and keep it as secure as possible. It is outrageous that a national news organization would reveal secret information like this to our enemies in the guise of news reporting. This certainly qualifies as giving aid to the enemy.

Give me a break, you think it's a "secret" that the CIA is conducting covert ops in Iran? Yeah, whew, the Iranian government had no idea. Thank goodness the ABCNews blog reported it.

Also, your headline is not the headline of the article you posted. Big faux pas.

They can't identify the sources because of the sensitive nature of the subject yet - they can identify the sensitive subject.

Just goes to show ya where the allegiance of these vermin lay.

I think it would help if the administration took this kind of sh!+ seriously and threw these reporters, along with the ny times folks, in jail. It would strengthen the perception that we are at war You have to go through legal contortions to convince me that this kind of stuff isn’t treason.

....current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

The same old Plame/Wilson cabal is still at it.

I don't blame ABC News for this leak; I blame President Bush. He has had nearly seven years to clean out the rogue CIA and the communist State Department and he has failed miserably.

Of course, it is entirely possible that Bush, well aware that those two organizations are jam-packed with leaky Democrat scumbags, is using them like chumps in a disinformation campaign of his own. Like jiu jitsu. I pray that is the case.

You’re the second FReeper in two days that I have seen jump on someone about “changing titles”. At least you didn’t PING the mods like the other one. This is the same title with a parentheses added. It is no different than adding a “Barf Alert” at the end. It has no effect on the search engine.

I am sure the covert effort to undermine the legitimate government of Iran will be as “successful” as the 47-year covert effort to undermine and overthrow the Castro regime in Cuba has been!

Where is the outrage at this waste of money (which Bush has to borrow from China and Japan, increasing the budget deficit)?

It's no secret. We've been in Iran for awhile just looking around, I'm sure....just in and out, back and forth.

By advertising it, we're playing games with the Iranians to see if they move stuff around.

Probably also listening/observing electronic traffic, to see if there is a spike somewhere.

Back and forth the game goes on...

Now if a bridge falls down, levy breaks, refinery fire occurs, power plant goes off line, cell towers collapse..... the Iranian nut job is sitting there thinking.....was it a "natural" disaster or sabotage...

All it takes is one plane crash, one cancer, one truck accident..to change the leadership of any country.

Sensitive? And here I was thinking that such information might actually be classified, and therefore it's a crime to leak the information. If it's a crime to "leak" the identity of a covert operative who attended very public parties and hadn't been on any operations in over 5 years is serious how isn't this?

Well, bless my soul.

Maybe US strategy is moving in the right direction.

We can count on the traitors in the CIA to leak anything damaging to US interests, but we can hope that more is planned than this bit of bother.

The US must put pressure on Iran. Serious, military, pressure.

Not just a few warships cruising past the coast, but serious gunfire and explosions.

Support for armed insurrection.

Financial disruptions.

Attack their oil exports.

The US needs a bit of deniability, but it really doesn’t matter if the Iranians know who’s targeting them.

Just get’r done.

Todays media would have told Germany about the D-Day invasion. There reason? The public has a right to know.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Did you know that covert operative paid tobe in Who’s who. She was a desk clerk and nothing more. I hope someone gets ten years in jail for this. Who knows it could all be a lie to see who’s leaking the info.
