Freep Chambliss' Online Poll *(Vanity)

Posted on 05/21/2007 11:24:39 PM PDT by RavenATB

Senator Chambliss has an online poll asking: "Of the following issues, which do you think is most urgent in Georgia?"

Here are the list of choices:

Crime/Methamphetamine Illegal Immigration Education Health Care Economic Development

Illegal Immigration is currently at 70%. Perhaps we can give that a bit of a bump and help put a bit of pressure on Senator Chambliss (who calls those of us who are against amnesty "ignorant")

Of course he’ll probably say that the poll he took SUPPORTS his stance on the proposed Senate bill.

Illegal Immigration is the ranking selection, but what does this poll say about HOW it should be handled? NOTHING!

I haven’t been able to get through to a live person in Chambliss’ DC and local office since Friday. I am livid about his comments that his constituents are just ignorant to understand the legislation.

I called the GA Republican Party - who is supporting Chambliss in 2008 - to voice my displeasure at this bill and let them know I wanted my name off every GA Republican list I am on. They don’t care either. I am just too stupid I guess.

I just received this email from Sen Chambliss in response to my email about the immigration bill. He sounds firm, hopefully he will stand firm....

Dear Mr. **** :
Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts about immigration reform. I appreciate knowing your thoughts on this important and emotional issue.

Our current immigration system is broken and needs reform. Any reform Congress enacts must meet our national security needs and our economic interests; it must also manage the number of people we admit into the U.S. to ensure American workers and families are not negatively impacted by our immigration system.

The recently announced bipartisan agreement on immigration reform is a step in the right direction toward reaching a final and comprehensive immigration bill. This legislation is a significant improvement over last year’s bill, which I opposed, but this is not a perfect bill. For me to support any final bill, it must contain the following principles that are important to Georgians:

Strong border security before any new immigration programs go into effect in order to prevent future illegal immigration

An employer verification system that can provide employers certainty with respect to the status of potential employees

A meaningful temporary worker program that is truly temporary and does not provide a pathway to citizenship while allowing employers to fill jobs for which insufficient numbers of American can be found, such as agricultural jobs

No amnesty

Our nation’s immigration problem has been in the making for many years and there is no easy fix. I have chosen to be proactive and engaged during the negotiations because my involvement is the right thing for Georgia and the right thing for America ‘s future. As the debate progresses, I will continue the fight to ensure that our nation is secure and our economy continues to thrive.

I called, too. The person was quite polite and chatted with me for at least 20 minutes. She said that many callers were “emotional” (translate to angry) about this issue and she was actually quite sympathetic. I believe that she felt much the same way, but gave the party “line” about something having to be done. Apparently, enforcing the laws already on the books doesn’t seem to be an option.

You do realize that he ISN’T standing “firm”, and he voted FOR the amnesty yesterday?

Run against him in the primary, make him spend some money. I am considering at least starting a petetion to do so if Cochran in MS goes the way of Trent Lott.
