Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) hasn't spent much time in the Capitol this year as he seeks the GOP presidential nomination. But one of his rare appearances this week provided a pretty salty exchange with a fellow Republican.
During a meeting Thursday on immigration legislation, McCain and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) got into a shouting match when Cornyn started voicing concerns about the number of judicial appeals that illegal immigrants could receive, according to multiple sources -- both Democrats and Republicans -- who heard firsthand accounts of the exchange from lawmakers who were in the room.
At a bipartisan gathering in an ornate meeting room just off the Senate floor, McCain complained that Cornyn was raising petty objections to a compromise plan being worked out between Senate Republicans and Democrats and the White House. He used a curse word associated with chickens and accused Cornyn of raising the issue just to torpedo a deal.
Things got really heated when Cornyn accused McCain of being too busy campaigning for president to take part in the negotiations, which have gone on for months behind closed doors. "Wait a second here," Cornyn said to McCain. "I've been sitting in here for all of these negotiations and you just parachute in here on the last day. You're out of line."
McCain, a former Navy pilot, then used language more accustomed to sailors (not to mention the current vice president, who made news a few years back after a verbal encounter with Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont).
"[Expletive] you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room," shouted McCain at Cornyn. McCain helped craft a bill in 2006 that passed the Senate but couldn't be compromised with a House bill that was much tougher on illegal immigrants.

And the cow that was killed to make the saddle.
Chickens hit.
He has a terrible temper. Someone in our church used to live in his district and he would argue with him at town meetings. His language toward my friend was pretty horrific. Not like our gentleman in office now.
John McCain is unstable. John McCain is freaking nuts!
Jake, I had a similar experience with him in Phoenix one time. I figured he was brain-damaged by all the torture.
Shhh
You know I think that might be right - but damn it’s hard to say in this politically correct world we live in.
I do think he’s touched - and I don’t blame him.
Just keep his short little arms out of the White House. (sarc)
Only one I can think of is chicken sh—. Poopy, you know?
So was Duke Cunningham.
So was John Murtha.
Maybe these military guys should say out of politics.
Nice one - WOW - that’s the kind of post I like on a Friday night.
McCain and his self serving arrogance and wrongly assumed superiority — needs his RINO ass kicked severely....
I hope this convinces the McCainiacs that he truly is McInsane.....a sad casualty of the war...
Well, I'm glad that Arizona is getting it's money's worth...
A friend of mine who used to live in his district and who came up against him several times (I think in regard to abortion) said the same thing. He’s a nutcase.
And if elected President he gets the nuke codes!!!!
Which one? There are so many.
Chickens hit.
Well, that's a relief. I thought he might have called poor Cornyn a "breast."
Wow - you see - it’s all over the case - it’s just under the covers.
Rush Limbaugh hates him - though he will never say it that way.
So was J Carey who got shot in the butt with a paper clip or something...
You got it Farmer Dean.
150 acres and your inside on the computer.
I bet your wife is out there working.
Hero?
McCain?
Not in my book...
Consider the sentence interchangeable.
But when it comes to the two of them, I can find some empathy for Duke--none for McQueeg, who barely escaped the S&L scandal as I recall.
Looks like he got it!
D’oh - oh my God - I spit my martini out on my keyboard.
You bastard - gotta go get a towel...........
