This is from the article in the Charlotte Observer:

"The measure, being pushed by the California-based National Popular Vote organization, would kick in only if states representing a majority of the nation's 538 electoral votes decided to make the same change."

But this is being pushed in 40 states!!!! The Dems will not stop until they succeed in overturning this important protection in the Constitution against the domination of Presidential politics by the heavily populated (urban) centers of this nation!

IT MUST BE PUBLICIZED AND STOPPED AT EVERY TURN!

Thanks! Although I did, the Sen. in my district is a ‘rat so I have a strong feeling it will fall on deaf ears.

The ends justify the means to these people. Also, voter fraud is easier to pull off in huge metropolitan areas, the PO won’t remember you - by name - when you show up on Election Day in somewhere like NYC.

"Popular-vote legislation has been introduced in 40 states, but so far only Maryland has passed it into law. Opponents say the change would hurt small rural states, where the percentage of the national vote could be smaller than that represented by their votes in the overall Electoral College." From the article linked above.

They could only do so through a Constitutional amendment. That would have to be passed by Congress then sent to the states for ratification. Do you really believe that would occur between now and November 2008?

Go ahead. Do what you have to do. But please understand why I don’t share your immediacy.

A state can choose its electors however it wants. It can require them to be split proportionally by popular vote. There is nothing in the US Constitution about the electors being chosen in a winner-take-all manner in each state.

The downside of a proportional voting scheme is that 1) if no one gets a majority of electoral votes, the House gets to select the President from among the top 5 electoral vote getters (i.e. we could end up with a true whack job as President), and 2) the President and Vice President could end up being from different parties (which might be interesting from a “snakes devouring themselves” standpoint).

It won't happen by 2008, but that doesn't change the immediacy of the issue.
Do you realize that about 8 or so years ago we cane within one State of a Constitutional Convention? We got there because people ignored it until only three (If memory serves me correct) more states needed to call for one.

You don't remember the fight for the ERA - Equal Rights Amendment (re: feminist campaign for equal "rights" for women) which was being sought as an Amenement to the Constitution...- that was fought state by state for YEARS? That movement was FINALLY defeated nationwide. (But word is the Demnazi's want re-visit THAT issue soon).

Most Americans have no idea this "movement" is going on. The ones who do are the ones who are ANGRY that President Bush won the last two elections. Period.

It's being introduced in 40 state legislatures - NOW. Reason enough to work against it in EVERY state. In NC the Demonrats have managed to pass it out of a Senate Committee - next step Passage by the entire NC Senate - while NC House is working on a similar bill.

STOP THIS IN NC NOW!!!

Oh contraire mon frier, the States can pass concurrent resolutions and then send them to the Congress as long as 2/3 of the states join in, a amendment can originate in the states.

NC is so heavily controlled by the Dhimicrat machine it is not even, funny believe me on that.

The site below is a pro popular vote site, but you can know the enemy and see just how serious the situation is. The sad part is that the less populous states are most of the ones trying to pass this and they will be the big losers.

http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/index.php

NC has its own page there if you look around.

It can require them to be split proportionally by popular vote.

If this is like the MD bill, it has nothing to do with proportionality. It simply says that whichever party wins the national popular vote is the party whose electors will be appointed by the legislature. I claim that it IS Constitutional, but that it does VIOLATE the Voting Rights Act. And to make it not violate the Voting Rights Act, they would NOT be able to conduct a popular election for President within the state of NC. While that would be legal, let's see how it flies with the citizens of NC.

LOL!!!!

Glad you contacted him anyway - they need to know NC voters ARE paying attention and DO know about their shenanigans. Thanks for calling. Now if you know any other NC Voters - pass the word requesting they do the same.

"Also, voter fraud is easier to pull off in huge metropolitan areas,"

Yes it is - though NC is fast becoming a voter fraud HUB by continuing to deny the requirement of a PHOTO ID for people registering to vote and when voting.

I live in NC.

I’ve emailed my Senator (and Representative for good measure).

I’ve forwarded it to my address book.

Not exactly a ping list, but maybe a chain letter?

It scares me to think that a few states (no more than three) can control who will be president ... keep the Electoral College but I think the Dem’s will try to eliminate it ... is it a Constitutional thing where states would vote?

“They might as well just set fire to the US Constitution, they are trashing it all the time. If they get rid of elec. college the big cities which all have strong majority of liberals will select all future presidents and the rest of the USA might as well not even vote. NYC, SF, LA, Etc will choose all the future presidents.”

Didn’t Bush win by a comfortable majority last election? They way I see it this will force pubs to campaign in the larger cities and it will be easier for them to pick off dem votes than the other way around since dems already have maxed their vote in those areas.

Anyways, maybe it’s the hundreds of million of people in the big cities who are tired of having poolokaville choose their president.

It would require a Constitutional Amendment.
The big problem is that there are too many sheeple who fail to understand Statehood.

Thanks for that link.

This "movement" is progressing QUICKLY through the State Legislatures:

1 has passed it and it's signed by Governor - MARYLAND

1 has passed it in both houses - HAWAII

3 have passed it in ONE house of Legislature - ARKANSAS, ILLIONOIS, COLORADO!

8 have passed it in one Committee - NORTH CAROLINA!!!, CALIFORNIA, LOUISIANA, NEW MEXICO, MONTANA, WASHINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA, CONNECTICUT

28 States - the bill has been introduced

Sickening - they surely do have a "movement" - do wonder how much of Soros' money is pushing this "movement".
