China to buy $4.3B in U.S. technology
A delegation of Chinese business leaders on Wednesday committed to buying $4.3 billion in U.S. technology, hoping to soften a political backlash to the massive trade imbalance dividing two of the world's economic powers. The agreements were trumpeted at a ceremony staged two weeks before the scheduled start of government talks in Washington, where leaders will try to tackle the United States' $232 billion trade deficit with China and other prickly issues. California Lt
. Gov. John Garamendi hailed 27 contracts signed Wednesday as an "important step in furthering the deep relationship between this state, this country and China."

I am sorry but I really have utterly no interest in being economically enslaved to corrupt “American” Union bosses and incompetent business owners by Govt dictate just because a bunch of trailer trash are so economically ignorant they cannot figure out their bad life choices are NOT the fault of some evil foreign, or corporates, entity out to “get them”. Either you accept the burden, and well as the gift of Liberty, or you are nothing but hypocrites. You don’t get to selectively pick and choose which Liberties you embrace and which you will demand everyone give up in a desperate hope for some sort of illusionary “security”.
“Are they buying the plant or the product to clone?”
Product....why pay for the factory?
Are you okay with China taking over Taiwan? Are you comfortable with their impact on other major regional trading partners like India?
“trailer trash”
You sound like an elitist, left wing liberal. I suppose those trailers will become even more trashed when enough American working stiffs lose their jobs to illegal immigrants.....like 250,000 American construction jobs.
You write a check.
Manufacturing processes are patented. If someone wants to use someone else's patented process legally, they purchase a license to do so. Therefore, they buy technology.
the truth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM8XLDl_MTw i have a lott of them if anyone would like see more let me

Ahh, there it is the “Trade good ignoramious, repeat after me Trade with China good, Trade with China good” ubiquity, no matter that the steal military secrets, buy off politicians, and plan on dealing with Taiwan one way or another, if we just buy more stuff, they’ll like us won’t they?
Exactly!!
Bring em on!
Until there is a global patent police, to do this with a customer like China is a laugh. They’ll buy our permission to make 1 widget and then churn out a million of them daring us to do anything about it.

Free trade/Internationalism has as one of it’s core foundations the lowering wages to the maximum possible, whether that is through illegal immigrants reducing wage pressure (and inflation to be fair) or flooding the market with alternative trade deals such as the “Pilot program” that allows Mexican trucking firms to access the US market with no de facto reciprocity into Mexico.
“IF” we could have true “free trade” by allowing US trucks actual access into Mexico without the forseeable loss due to Theft or Mordida, tehn it would be a good deal, eventually it will become a more “fair” deal but only after literally decades have rolled by and Mexico has an interest in preventing theft, bribery, armed robberies etc.
this is how its done Senators who weakened drug bill got millions from

A measure that blocked an effort to allow drug importation passed, 49-40. The 49 senators who voted against drug importation received about $5 million from industry executives and political action committees since 2001 nearly three quarters of the industry donations to current members of the Senate, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data compiled by two non-partisan groups, Center for Responsive Politics and PoliticalMoneyLine.
That is from the USA today article.
Now this is the sort of thing that puts the lie to “free trade” as it is now practiced. If free trade were a fact, then the “Joe Average Trailer Park” should be able to get their prescriptions filled from Canadian Pharmacies, but as we can see, “free trade” doesn’t work that way. It is designed to facilitate Oligarchicies.
One of the basics flaws IMO of the current system is that it presumes that the US is a sort of Hong Kong with things like business licenses and federal employer ID’s and occupancy permits are simple to acquire. That is not the case at all, in NYC for example it can take 45 days to get a simple business license, in Hong Kong, it takes a day if one is gotten at all.
IIRC< when this nation was founded, there were nop income taxes. There were tariffs though. Worked until 1913. I always tend to mouth the free trade thing cause it seems to make sense, but when I was a child, the USA was a better place. Moms were able to stay home with their kids, and we made the best stuff on the planet. NOW, we have to import everything - including high tech workers. Something is amiss, and China is just one in a long line. I don’t know what the answer is, but maybe a little bit of patriotism among our politicians and corporate leaders wouldn’t hurt. Less govt spending would help too. I can’t stand China, but is it their fault we don’t save?
What's missing in this article is the fact that buying patents will increase the capital surplus, while making the current account (aka "trade deficit") even worse.
The article talks about wanting to "tackle the United States' $232 billion trade deficit with China", but then they turn right around and point to "more U.S. investments", and "computer software". Don't get me wrong, our helping China crawl it's way up to the twentieth century is going to make us even more wealthy and powerful than ever. It's just not going to do anything for all that "trade deficit" shtick.
Got that exactly right, mate!
So the Chi-Coms buy $4.6Billion, reverse engineer it, then masss produce and sell stuff made with that technology back to us at a profit of several times the initial investment... All the while driving the originator(s) of the technology out of business... yep, makes sense to me...
