RICHMOND, Va. — Barack Obama, caught up in the fervor of a campaign speech Tuesday, drastically overstated the Kansas tornadoes death toll, saying 10,000 had died.
The death toll was 12.
"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed," the Democratic presidential candidate said in a speech to 500 people packed into a sweltering Richmond art studio for a fundraiser.
Obama mentioned the disaster in Greensburg, Kan., in saying he had been told by the office of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius that the state's National Guard had been depleted by its commitment to the Iraq War.
"Turns out that the National Guard in Kansas only had 40 percent of its equipment and they are having to slow down the recovery process in Kansas," Obama said, his shirt sleeves rolled up and his head glistening with sweat.
As the Illinois senator concluded his remarks a few minutes later, he appeared to realize his gaffe.

Good find
Yah, but let's get to the REAL source -- who was Biden plagiarizing?
Obama said so. It must be true
Hey at least they didn’t get shot right... was the Tornado registered?
Only ?? Try 83,333% :)
People!
Have we learned nothing????
It is not the accuracy, it is the intent!!!
And the intent was: 10,000 died and FEMA was no where to be found. This would not have happened under an Obama Administration. He would have had FEMA lining the tornadic front route — all 700 or so miles of it — waiting -— with mobile homes in tow — and water — and food -— all lined up — waiting for the big one to touch down.
Obama — da new man with da plans for all occasions.

So when Obama-Osama screws up, it is a gaffe.
When GW misspeaks - it is because he is a stupid monkey..
Could the double standard be much more obvious?
Yeah, but I never even considered that there might have been other storms, unknown to us because of the cover-up. Now you’ve got me thinking. This is probably bigger than any of us ever imagined, and we have Sen. Obama to thank for letting the cat out of the bag.
For the first time, I’m not so proud that I voted for Alan Keyes.
“Darn that Million Man Math! I forgot to carry the two...”
“The idiot didnt even mention the rapes, murders, and cannibalism that may have possibly likely went on.”
Or the fact that Kansas folk are carrying on as best they can without homes and their belongins and not complaining the way some who have been in the path of destructive weather have (ahem..cough..N.Orleans)
Midwest people are tough...pioneers in their bloodlines, perhaps?? My Irish ancestors only made it to Ohio, musta broke a wagon wheel or somethin’!
He blames it on fatigue. How convenient.
“Ah’ve been soo tahhh-erd...!”
Obama Osama picked up a few traits from his mentor, Al “Fraud” Sharpton.
The real SHOCK is the AP wrote about it!!
Oops.
Looks like Obama Bin-A-Commie has been using Million Man Math Made Easy (TM).
maybe he’s right, so what that the town only has approx 2000 residents, maybe obama has some inside information on the newest conspiracy (sarcasm)
He also managed to follow Sebrenius’s lead, and blame any delay in the cleanup on the Iraq war.
Psssst, Obama. It’s a town of 1500. The state still has 40% of its National Guard. What if it had hit Wichita, even with the Guard at 100%?
