From that part of the world......we will take what we can get.
Yes well - agree - power and glory for Bill - Marxist control for Hitlery. Problem is when you get one, you get both of them. In 92-98 - we saw Clinton using his power to go after his enemies. He did this over and over and over again - just as he did while in Arkansas. Both of them are, as others have said, extraordinarily good liars. Both of them think that Americans have too much freedom and want it taken away. Both of them see no problem cozying up to those who want us dead if by doing so they can retain power a bit longer. (i.e. the Chinese military and the Jihadists). Hillary views Stalin favorably! Bill thinks taxing Americans in order to “care for the world’s poor nations” is a good idea nad will be recommending such and pushing for it if he gets back in the White House as co president again. They both want to use the Global Warming idiocy to take money and freedom from Americans - as far and as much as they can get away with. I could go on. And THEIR AGENDA has become the DEMS AGENDA. The Anti-George Bush hatred started when they Clintons were forced to leave “their” White House and they and their operatives trashed the White House and STOLE treasures from OUR HOUSE. They have been having a hissy fit tantrum against W ever since and it has spread to the entire Dem party and press. HATE BUSH is their theme because everything Clinton is not, George W. Bush is. They will not stop until they succeed in getting W impeachedjj, their ultimate goal.
“Funny how we were told (well by the leftist) the countries like Germany, Canada, and now France hate us so much.”
Well, let’s put the blame where it belongs.
I think American leftist media were more about how these countries should despise the United States because of the horrible, evil, babies-eating Big Bad Administration. How they would indeed come to hate the United States because of that horrible President Bush who, as we all know, eats scrambled babies for breakfast. America was misbehaving, these media told us, and the world should hate it indeed.
But I also remember many articles from US Conservative media, often posted here and visibly held in great respect, who indeed said France and Germany hated the United States, had always done so, and would always do so. “Our oldest ebnemy”, for example, hasn’t exactly been written by Leftists...
I don’t deny that. Turnout is great and we really should be ashamed of ourselves in that regard.
But they’ve hardly made that big a decision, it was either a right winger or a socialist. The French have been moving to the right for some years, yet nothing has ever actually changed.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
He isn't, as far as I know. I was just connecting some trivia dots. Sarkozy has been compared to Bonaparte; and the Bonaparte family has a long association with Baltimore. That was why I included that picture from The Economist where Sarko was photoshopped into Napoleon's place in the famous Jacques Louis David portrait.
Those French conservative women look great. Compare to liberal women like Rosie O’donnel and Cindy Sheehan.
No, but it may never have been built, had the focus been on something other than building Rome.
My enthusiasm for your victory has dampened considerably today upon hearing news of Sarkozy's victory speech, in which he stated: "A great nation, like the United States, has a duty not to block the battle against global warming but _ on the contrary _ to take the lead in this battle, because the fate of the whole of humanity is at stake,"
He urged the United States to take the lead on climate change and said the issue would be a priority for France. This was taken from an AP report from Paris.
If Sarkozy is going to begin his term attacking windmills such as global warming, a major fraud if there ever was one, I fear this may be a Pyhrric victory for France. There are far more important issues within France confronting him. I think I'll hold off buying my Beaujolais...
Thank you. I guess I should ask then how Bonaparte is connected to Baltimore, if you’ll forgive my laziness!
I see where there is a Reuters poll that gives the UMP a 6 percent edge right now, but my concern is that the forces of the left will intensify their efforts to change this. Perhaps the big unions will strike or hold big demonstrations; and of course they will riot in the immigrant-dominated banlieues.
Is this likely do you think?
Naturally, the all-important thing now is to win the general election which will renew the French Assemblée Nationale, your House of Representants.
Both parties know that - or, should I say, all three parties know that : the UMP, the Socialist Party, and the Centrist UDF.
It is going to be another tough battle for the Conservatives, but this time there is some good news. This presidential election has been the most bitter, most contested we ever had, and as a result people flocked en masse to the voting stations. With over 85% of the people actually casting their ballot, that means there is little untapped reservoir the Left can use to counterbalance its defeat.
Sure, Royal did not do too bad - 47% is a pretty honorable result for somebody who was running for the first time. But the important thing is to keep in mind the result of the 1st turn. Even combined with the Greens and the extreme left, the Left could only garner around 35% of the vote, while the Conservative parties got 35 alone, and could count on National Front and part of the Centrists.
The Left might want to show some muscle through major protests, but as the new government will not have done much by the time the elections will be held, I guess the only slogan they’ll be able to find will be to portray Sarkozy as another Hitler - they tried that already, and it didn’t work.
As for riots, I doubt they would ever convince people to swing the way they voted - UMP candidates would then have no trouble telling the electorate “look, they don’t want tyou to choose freely, so they threaten to burn your cars” on national and local TV, and the Left candidates would look like they are relying on street violence to get elected.
I am rather confident the UMP can keep the upper hand. We are known for loving “cohabitation” governments, though, but I don’t think we’ll want to START a new presidential mandate like that. best strategy for the UMP is to get UDF defectors, or better yet to strike a major deal with the UDF and form a governmental coalition to have full UDF cooperation.
blah, blah, blah. france is as useless as tits on a boar.
“I cant see why so Freepers care about this. Sorry.”
“There were two possible outcomes today and this is the better of the two. It’s that simple.”
Yep, but today France is still ‘France’...and therein lies the rub.
Many thanks for that information! I hope you are right and the UMP can hold their majority. Looking forward to François Fillon as Prime Minister.
Thanks , I had him confused with Le Pen.
I am going out to buy a bottle of French wine today, my first in 4 year.
Why does the press describe Chirac as a conservative?
Why does the press describe Chirac as a conservative?
:::
Maybe because the press is so far to the left, that Chirac, relatively speaking, appears to be conservative :-)
LOL.
