Leo, Rosie make Time's most influential NEW YORK - Heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio and envelope-pushers Rosie O'Donnell and Sacha Baron Cohen are among the entertainment newsmakers on Time magazine's list of 100 people who shape the world. The list of 100 most influential, on newsstands Friday, also includes Queen Elizabeth II, presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record), YouTube founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, director Martin Scorsese and model Kate Moss. It does not include President Bush.
In a piece she wrote for the magazine, Barbara Walters, the creator of "The View," had kind words to say about O'Donnell, who announced last week she was leaving the ABC talk show in June because she and the network couldn't agree on a new contract.
"And so, last September, we began a thrilling roller-coaster ride," Walters wrote. "We followed Rosie's passion and compassion, her feuds and fearlessness, her humanity and humor."
Walters said she and O'Donnell "remain respectful and affectionate friends."
Roseanne Barr weighed in on Baron Cohen, also known as Borat. "He does offend some people's sensibilities, but the youth of today are offended if they're not offended," she wrote.
Scorsese, who often casts DiCaprio in his films, praised the 32-year-old screen idol/activist as a "true actor."
"DiCaprio is another guy a lot of us underestimated as a pretty-boy type," Adi Ignatius, a deputy managing editor at Time, told AP Television News.
The list includes 71 men and 29 women from 27 countries.
Other entertainers making the cut were Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Tyra Banks, Cate Blanchett, America Ferrera, Tina Fey, John Mayer, Brian Williams, Michael J. Fox, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and "American Idol" creator Simon Fuller.
Separately, Time named 14 "power givers" such as Bill and Melinda Gates, Angelina Jolie and Queen Rania al-Abdullah of Jordan.
Welcome to FR.
Some are true. I think Simon Fuller of “American Idol” is definitely deserving of the “name”. I definitely think You Tube creator is deserving. President Bush has been on the list for a while and they probably didn’t think he was very influential this year because we lost the Senate and House.
Influential...in what way? Some of them couldn’t even influence a bowel movement.
Curiously, Rudy Giuliani isn't on that list.
Why, if I didn't know better, I might think that Time is a twinketoes little neo-communist sucking-sound liberal assclown Democrat-national-committee suckup-front-man and spokesperson who's totally in the tank for any hideous leg-warmer-wearing liberal out there.
Good thing I know better.
The Left patting themselves on the back.
Yes, indeed, influential in what way? In popular culture? In politics, business?
Time Magazine named Ayatollah Khomeini the Man of the Year in 1979, as he was the biggest newsmaker of the year, whether for good or bad. Adolf Hitler was also Man of the Year in 1938. Bin Laden was in the running for Man of the Year in 2001, but was defeated by Giuliani, as Time didn’t want to give an award to such a monster as Bin Laden. So by 2001 the criteria for the award has changed from being the biggest newsmaker to being the major favorable newsmaker.
So it really depends on what their criteria are as far as how to judge them.
Thank you. But I am not new to FR. been here several years, had to change my name cause I forgot my old password and e-mail. I use to go by the name of AlexPKeaton04 during the 04 elections. But yeah not all are bad on this list, but please Rosie and Hillary?? Yikes!
Another MSM riding off into the sunset.
Loss of relevance
Who still reads Time magazine? Who cares what they think? It is a bleating propaganda organ of the Left. Didn’t I read recently that it had closed its DC bureau? Time comes out once a week, so the “news,” such as it is, is a little stale. Total waste of trees.
I was reading not three months ago in Time about the inevitable election of Ségolène Royal in France...
Are they on the list as separate entries, or are their intellects combined to equal one (subnormal) person?
These are the most influential people....to Time magazine.
President Bush should be proud of the fact he isn’t included with the majority of these.
Also gives new meaning to “under the influence”.
time’s list of influential scu&bags.
(please forgive the expression but it is one of the few apt descriptions)

What is Time?
Well, this is TIME magazine. You may as well be asking George Soros who the 100 most influential people in the world are.
Oh man you owe me a new key board. That is the funniest thing I've seen today. That's the last time I read posts and drink a Diet Coke at the same time.
