Russia cuts fuel supplies to Estonia amid statue row

moscow • Russia halted deliveries of oil products to Estonia yesterday in a move that coincided with protests in Moscow over the Baltic state’s relocation of a Soviet war memorial.

The cut-off was likely to revive Western fears the Kremlin is using its energy might as a political weapon against ex-Soviet neighbours.

Russia’s state rail monopoly said it planned to carry out maintenance on the rail link to Estonia, disrupting supplies.

Coal exporters said Russian railways had also halted exports of steam coal via Estonia for this month, totalling up to 900,000 tonnes, citing a shortage of railway wagons.

They said Russian rail monopoly RzHD told them they must use their own rail wagons, not RzHD’s, but it has not been possible with such short notice to find alternative wagons.

Moscow and Tallinn have been trading barbs since Estonia last week moved a bronze statue of a Red Army soldier—revered in Russia as a symbol of its huge sacrifices in World War Two — from its spot in the centre of the capital.

Madame ambassador you are a very brave lady! ==

I see you in love:). Is she your dream for the women buity? On my teaste she is quite ugly.

Under the appalling, exceedingly dangerous circumstances, due to the Putin régime’s ordered attacks on the Estonian embassy, coupled with the Kremlin’s withdrawal of proper police protection, it would be wise to depart from Russia and demand NATO take firm attack against the Russian dictatorship.==

Noone removed no police protection or she sat in her embassy and didn’t go outside as your atricle say.

“The “firm attack” is not by nuclier warheads?:) Short of that we do not care.

Which nation’s embassy will Putin ordered attacked next? In protest to this incredible, very visible state approved violence attack against a sovereign nation’s diplomatic quarters, all free nations should immediately withdraw their ambassadors in protest to the Kremlin’s savage, Islamofascist like displays of preplanned and sanctioned KGB ordered brutality.==

Withdraw embassadors? What hext? The total mobilization of troopes and nuclier forces?

Putin’s repeated vicious utilization of energy blackmail as a economic weapon against Moscow’s enemies ==

What is wrong with using weapon aganst enemies? You do not that? Estonia FIRST started this hostilities so now she should pay the price.
Russia will stop all transit through estonian ports and all trades with her. Soon Estonia will be the dead end of Europe. Russia has no obligations to support the hostile nation with her business.

I think Russia is preparing for the re-establishment of Empire. It looks to like 19th-20th century poking and prodding- setting up “incidents.”

“wild horde of Kremlin programmed NASHI degenerates, acting like savages” heh heh:).

They maybe did something excessive as they are young but they didn’t vandalise the monument to dead soldiers. And they didn’t unearth the graves. So who is real “savages”?:)

Nashi thugs are throughly trained at their Kremlin financed camps, including ideological exams that will enable them to become little "commissars" which offers advantages unthinkable for most young Russians, such as their own row of new luxury flats/condos for the future governing neo-Soviet elite.

Russia in 2007:

* Brutally Suppressed Opposition

* Bureaucratic, Corrupt, Backwards Government

* Byzantine Justice

* Censorship

* Church as Arm of the State

* Extravagant Ruling Elite

* Huge Unwieldy Army

* Political Assassinations

* Powerful Secret Police

* Subservient Parliament

* Widespread Abject Poverty

Stay in your 'paradise' Nashi commissar.

Russia in 2007:

* Brutally Suppressed Opposition==

Not true. I see the oppisition leaders all over TV each day.

* Bureaucratic, Corrupt, Backwards Government ==

Bureaucratic yes. Corrupt partially and only on lower levels. All highest levels Putin cleaned up.

* Byzantine Justice==

The jury court you call “Byxzantine Justice”? But does it apply to America which has the jury court too?

* Censorship==

If you compare russian TV and american you may be surpriced where is the real censorship:). I can compare since I saw both.

* Church as Arm of the State==

Very untrue:)

* Extravagant Ruling Elite==

What do you mean?

* Huge Unwieldy Army==

The army is on progression now. New armament, lot of contract professional officers. Now sergant positions in military are all profesional. The soldiers are on conscript since in Russia each man should have the initial military training.

* Political Assassinations==

Very rare thing. Mostly the assasinations happened in between comrades fighting for the western grants. Recall who and why murdered Yushenkov and Staravoitova?

* Powerful Secret Police==

What is the secret police? FSB? They fight the terrorists and foreign spies.

* Subservient Parliament==

That is because Putin’ party is the majority in Parlament. But what do you say for America when Republicans were in majority?

* Widespread Abject Poverty==

Poverty in Russia? You may mistake her with Ukraine in Georgia? Whatever Russia is but here is no poverty. There are lot of the nonrich people but poverty - no.
Do you know that the avarage price on the property in Moscow is about $400 sqfeet. But in province is about $200.

And it is real market price. So people has money to buy in such price. The average common folk pay that prices.

Stay in your ‘paradise’ Nashi commissar.==

I do not think that is a “paradise” but it is not a “hell” also:). And I have to stay.

Instead of massed tanks through the Fulda Gap, Vladmir Putin is using energy to strangle his neighbors he wants to reestablish control over.

I don’t think it will work out as he wishes.

Well we have been trying the same thing with Cuba for over half a century. So you are right, it has few prospects for working.

I don’t think that comparision is accurate, for a host of reasons.

Sure, your army of unwilling slaves is really on the way up. The Russian army, where they castrate you and call it hazing. Really something to be proud of. Turning tricks is about all your “army” is good for.
