Jim Geraghty has another Fred Thompson update (one in a continuing series).
And, from my inbox — my Brit post last night only made some love Thompson more:
On the Brit's dissing of Thompson....I could be wrong, but I read this as a snobby European thing.
Europe has much in common with American liberals in that Republicans are generally seen as stupid, and Republican actors are particularly stupid (especially as they don't see the liberal light that the rest of the arts community does).
This is the same stuff Reagan had to put up with..."stupid, vapid actors."
Ironically, Thompson is both more intelligent and more accomplished outside Hollywood than any of his detractors.
Fred does have gravitas, but I’m getting tired of people saying that his supporters aren’t really for him, just against the others. That’s BS. I want him to run, because I like his record and his views.
I saw Fred Thompson on H&C last night and I was impressed. I hope he does run.

It truly is amusing to witness the cognitive dissonance over Fred at the new anti-freeper site. They’re getting visibly frustrated that they cannot figure out his appeal. I truly believe it is because they have such a newfound hatred for FR, and Fred is pretty much the man over here. No other reason.
Enough of the dancing around, jump in this race and win it! You are too old to be coy and the stakes are too damn high.

As for Thompson, I am so glad he just noticed that Moveon.org/Soros is controllng the Dem party.

Fred puts the lie to the main claim that the recently departed always used to throw at the more conservative (or actually conservative) posters on FR - that we're unappeasables, 100 percenters, et cetera, ad naseum (despite the fact that FR largely supported Bush despite his many conservative failings).
However, Fred isn't a perfect conservative, yet he has overwhelming support on FR. And they just can't deal with that - it blows away their spin machine (that is, the parts that aren't blown away by Rudy himself).
However, I think what REALLY pi**ed them off is that so many freepers (me included) came to realize that even McCain was better than Rudy - and for all their talk of voting for the eventual nominee, many of them held out for the option of not voting for McCain if he won. So they want their exception, but we're not allowed to have ours. More hypocrisy.

Sorry, but the virulent hatred began long ago when a group of posters decided that criticism of Bush on FR was not to be allowed without gang counterattacks.
But many of the points of criticism ended up leading to the GOP downfall in 2006. And others led to the bloated spending that Bush and the GOP leadership rang up.
I guess personal attacks are OK as long as it's your side doing it.

It began with Rudy fans smearing the record of anyone who wasn't as pro-abortion or anti-gun as Rudy.
The concerted effort to pull conservatives into Rudy's liberal gutter got the reaction it deserved.

Exactly. I couldn't agree more. I support Fred because he is better than EVERY other Republican running for the nomination.

But Rudy's so bad he makes McCain look palatable. So Fred just naturally looks like an utter giant next to Rudy.
